Mule deer / bear out west: setting 3 pins

Got a new 3 pin fast eddie. I was going to go 20-40-60 but don't like the idea of having such large gaps between pins. I figure my average for mule deer is a 50 yard shot, black bear I've been able to get a lot closer.

What are opinions on a 30-40-50 yard pin set up, with the bottom pin being a slider?

I set my fast eddie at 20,30,40. I then would roll down to top pin at 30 for elk. That gave me 0-60 with no movement.
Any reason you prefer the top pin over bottom?

This sight is new to me so trying to figure it all out

I had a triple stack with 3 indicators. When I rolled my top pin to 30 I could use that pin from 0-30 with no real hold over. The bottom pin would be about 50 and need about a 10” hold out to 60. I used that system for elk to minimize the need to adjust the sight.

What about 25,40,50?

For hunting with a compound; I like 25y for a minimum pin.
This is exactly where I ended up again after tinkering the past couple season.
I tried adding a 4th pin, tried 30,40,50, but 25,40,50 seems to be the sweet spot for me. Anything further and I'm going to be ranging and dialing anyway. A little more thought is involved if I need to shoot a grouse, but if anything, I'll usually end up backing up to get exactly 25.

I prefer 15 yard increments. I set pins at 20-35-50, or 35-50-65, depending on the circumstances of the hunt. Has worked for me for a long time.

If you are good at gap shooting, yeah go for it. If not then no. Do 30-40-50. For me personally, if I'm at 40 and have a clean shot, I'm not gonna try to get to 20. I'm gonna send it. So I don't really need a 20 but that is me.

This is what I do. I shot a Mtn lion at around 13yds using this set up. So close shots are still easily doable. I still give myself enough movement to roll the sight down to 20, but honesty haven't needed to. I still know my hold (which is minimal) for short range: ie a shot at a bedded buck in the cliffs.

Yeah I didn't really think of this option. I like the idea of having the sight hit the bottom and be dead set at my closest pin option...but the idea of leaving some room to dial down to a closer yardage is a cool idea.

I need to shoot some arrows but there's a possibility that my 20 and 30 yard pin will be so close that I could almost get away with using them interchangeable. Obviously this is not really the case but they might be awfully close

Yep. Best thing to do is shoot the 30 at both ranges, see what the difference is, and determine if it'll work for you. If it works for you then you need to commit to it. So at the moment of truth you're not thinking to hard about it.

I roll with 30/40/50. Works great, my 30 is about 2" high at 20.

Thats how I ended up at ~25, 40, 50. 20 and 30 yard groups are only ~3-5" apart on bows I've had

I do something similar with a 5 pin slider. 27, 40, 50, 60, 70. If I have to scroll, I know that it’s way too long for an initial shot. Basically only scroll for precision if I have time and for foam.

Wow. This is a great idea...and something i might consider. During high stress situations are you putting the 25 yard pin on an animal and sending it or are you still able to adjust up and down a bit if needed?

0 to ~30-35, top pin, sending it
