Screw worm warning!

It’s 2025…. Your one article states 2024…

Victim no, just not a shrill of a Cartel Sympathizer.

Again this just didn’t pop up 4th qtr of 24 it’s been on going and Mexico allowed it, they weren’t going to nor have they quarantine cattle movement to slow or stop it…. Amongst other things….

They have done zero to stop it. Kind of like Chinese Iron ore under the protection of….. NAFTA
The one press release says December 2024 because that’s when the emergency funding was approved. You think that $165 million was spent instantly? You think any of this happens over night? Pretty boring at this point - like talking with uncle Jimmy when he’s been hitting the sauce and just keeps repeating himself. Good luck with your flys and cartels.

You shouldnt believe everything you see and hear on TV, but you know that to.

Maybe listen to the people who live there.

Sorry I missed this sir. I not familar with warbex and it doesnt show its listed for any type of flies. However it is listed for insects so I'm sure it would have some effect albeit probably limited. It also appears to a Cholinesterase inhibitor and I know those are particularly dangerous to handle pesticides.
Pretty sure they used it for warbels years ago. I've read that if the cattle you use it on have any "ear" in em itll kill em too.

Yea this old label I found basically said its toxic it can kill the bovine if they arent 100%

DO NOT USE ON LACTATING DAIRY COWS OR DRY DAIRY COWS WITHIN 21 DAYS OF FRESHENING; CALVES LESS THAN 3 MONTHS OLD; ANIMALS STRESSED FROM CASTRATION, OVEREXCITEMENT OR DEHORNING; SICK OR CONVALESCENT ANIMALS. ANIMALS MAY BECOME DEHYDRATED AND UNDER STRESS FOLLOWING SHIPMENT. DO NOT TREAT UNTIL THEY ARE IN GOOD CONDITION.

Rough stuff. Kinda like 1080 in that regard

Yea there is just some stuff IMO that isnt worth using / messing with. Some of the chemical immobilization drugs are bad and even the antibiotic micotil is fatal to humans in very small doses.

Off topic it always made me laugh that in the show dexter he used M99 to knock people out. I guess nobody told them #1 it doesnt work quite that fast. #2 extremely small doses will kill a person. M99 is like 10-30 times more potent then fentanyl which is 50-100 times stronger then morphine. You keep the narcan in you front pocket ready to go when you are messing with etorphine.

Again missing the point… why is the U.S. spending it… and again was 4th QTR 24 under Biden…did Mexico quarantine their live stock or spread it….? Mexico let it spread over 1000 miles. Their Government or lack there of is culprit here.

TAHC is the one with appropriate response of quarantine areas.

Same reason we still have a fever tick quarantine area. Again appropriate response… see a trend here.

I don’t drink but thanks for the projection…

It’s not getting axed, it’s a liberal lie, funding review for reallocation doesnt mean axed, no difference then any company having to justify budgets when new CEO comes in.
That’s good, and I know that trick very well😏

I will add, I would never regurgitate information like this thread that is likely partisan, after reading a few pages it obviously has a political tone, and unless I have personally researched the topic, I don’t get involved, because I know how these things get

I know several people who think 1080 was God's gift to ranchers. It killed coyotes just fine , the problem is it kills everything else

I ranch full-time in Texas. My friends that ranch at large-scale in northern Mexico tell me this is all a cartel driven hoax. None of them have seen any evidence of screwworm and they say the timing is all in unison with other historical health scares by the same cartel group. It's all for money and power.

Good news
“”
At a news conference today in Edinburg, USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins announced plans to reopen Hidalgo County's Moore Air Base as a New World Screwworm (NWS) sterile fly dispersal facility. Long-term production is anticipated to be 300 million sterile flies per week.

Moore was instrumental as a sterile fly production lab to rid the U.S. of NWS in the 1960s and 1970s. Hundreds of millions of flies were reared, sterilized with radiation, and dropped from aircraft to eliminate the parasitic pest that preyed upon wildlife and livestock. In Texas, white-tailed deer populations were dramatically reduced. Ranchers inspected and treated livestock daily to combat the fly's larvae, which feed on the flesh of live mammals.

While NWS was pushed back to Central America, there are currently more that 1,800 cases of livestock infestation in southern Mexico. The flies are moving north and are currently 600 miles from the South Texas border.

Last month, Secretary Rollins pledged to invest $21 million to renovate a fruit fly production facility in Mexico to produce sterile NWS flies for distribution.

UPDATE

Last week USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins was in Texas at Moore Air Base and launched an $8.5 million sterile New World screwworm (NWS) fly dispersal facility in South Texas. She also announced a sweeping five-pronged plan to enhance USDA’s already robust ability to detect, control, and eliminate this pest. The Secretary said “The United States has defeated NWS before and we will do it again. We do not take lightly the threat NWS poses to our livestock industry, our economy, and our food supply chain”.

The USDA’s five point plan includes:

Stop the Pest from Spreading in Mexico and Ensure We Are Full Partners in Eradication.

Protect the U.S. Border at All Costs.

Maximize Our Readiness.

Take the Fight to the Screwworm.

Innovate Our Way to Eradication.

According to Dr. Bud Dinges, Executive Director of the Texas Animal Health Commission, if the NWS reaches Texas, TAHC will coordinate the state’s response. The nearest detection of the NWS is 600 miles south of the Texas/Mexico border. The Mexican government has two planes that are dropping sterile male flies in that area through 35 flights per week. Additional planes have been offered however not accepted and the existing planes are plagued by maintenance issues and the challenge of keeping the flies cool during refueling stops.

TAHC has indicated that there are existing pharmaceutical treatments for NWS that have been successfully used in other countries. At this time most of those treatments or medications are not approved for use in the US. We understand that USDA is working with the FDA and other agencies to have these treatments reviewed and approved for use on the NWS.

At the recent TAHC stakeholders meeting on NWS, Dr. Dinges said that Texas is not in an NWS crisis, however the risk is great and this is the time to aggressively plan and prepare for the potential of an outbreak in Texas and beyond. TAHC’s three point plan includes treatment (sterile flies), active surveillance and animal movement control. They will release their plan as well as other relevant information on surveillance, detection, reporting, and treatment in a NWS “handbook” within the next few weeks.

In kindergarten we learned our actions have repercussions, intended and unintended.

Is anyone surprised that we treat Mexico like the enemy this year, wage economic war on them, and for some reason they aren’t thrilled to cooperate with us?
Well, they haven't exactly been a friendly neighbor either........
