I’ve read through the forum for probably 5 hours today while on the road traveling. I’m having a 28 nosler built and need to decide on optics soon. Long range capability I want but 90% will be hunting. Quality glass is valued, and toughness. It won’t see the west as much as some but when it’s there I don’t want it to fail. This post is more on making a selection. I think I’ve read every evaluation and review the internet has to offer lol. Weight isn’t a huge concern.

Personally, I’d rather have a pair of Nightforce SHV scopes, than a single scope costing twice as much. The times have changed to where I’m seen as a weirdo for even suggesting a backup scope. Ideally there’s a second backup rifle, but short of that you’ll never see me without a backup scope tucked away in the pickup.

How many times does someone post about having accuracy issues, and it’s an act of congress to get a second scope to see if that’s the issue, and they are sorting out issues well before the season under the best circumstances possible, not on some muddy meadow with crappy light, barely enough ammo, and a season opening in a day. Lol

OP, I had some detailed questions come up in another thread, and the info might be similarly interesting or helpful to you. They were AR related, but the info was quite a bit broader than just for them, especially with some of the links posted. Relevant scope questions started about here:

Nightforce ATACR would be my suggestion if weight is no concern. Better glass than the NX8, better eyebox and multiple reticle/ power options.
