Well, I got my Tikka T3 lite stainless 7MM Rem Mag and it needs a scope, I want to stay under $300 and with the stock 1" rings. I don't think I'll be shooting game past 300yrds and mostly just rifle season cow/doe freezer tags. Also what reticle would should I go with?

Thanks!

Tom

I'd first opt to dich the rings and go with a set of Talley Lightweights. Them and the Leupold VX2 in a 3-9/40 or even 2-7/33 should get you under $325 if you shop a bit.

Exactly what I would do. Regular duplex is perfect for ~300 yds.

YK.

Agree on the leupold vx2 and if wanted for a nominal fee you can send your scope in later to the custom shop and have them modify the reticle if so desired. As to the tikka rings I had no issues with mine in 10yrs of beat down service.

I just picked up my t3 on Saturday as well. I put warne rings on it and a Burris c4 4x14x42. The scope is on sale at cabelas for $350. The 3x9 is $300. If I lived out west and used it all tje time I would have went with the vortex hs lr. Burris will send you a dial like the cds. Hopefully it holds up and meets my needs.

The Tikka rings are just fine for your needs IMO. I have never had a single problem with them.

For a scope I would look at the Leupold vx2 3-9x40 ($299.99 I think) or a Vortex.

This is the rifle I just set up for my good friend. I will start working up loads for it shortly.

Tikka T3 7mm mag.
Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40 (Tikka Rings)
I set his trigger at 2 lbs.

Just my humble opinion on the rings, but toss em in the trash. I've re-ringed a 270 that after 40 rounds the front slipped. It's rim fire technology stacked on a 100gr+ boolit. You just dropped $700 on a rifle, lookin at another $300 in optics, dont skimp on the hardware. You've got legit options out there for ~$45.

Again, just my opinion.

The vortex crossfire ( I think it is my buddy has) is a great scope for what's needed, and I threw a DNZ game reaper mount, it's been rock solid! That set up you could do for probably 270$ or little less

The front ring on the Tikka has a pin that goes into the top of the action. If you mount it right, it can not slide. If the OP was going with a really heavy scope I would replace them but with a small scope like a 3-9 he should be fine.

I have also seen photos of the Talley rings splitting at the base. I believe it was here on Rokslide. I have never had any trouble with Talley rings personally.

Definitely not disagreeing on those points, just not a fan of the style. Curious on the split Talley, sight unseen if it were split through the base screws, I'd believe it was over torqued.

This is the one I was thinking of. http://www.rokslide.com/forums/showthread.php?6358-Scope-Mounts-Which-ones

I definitely get your point and agree about skimping on the rings after you spend the money on the gun and scope. I just haven't had any trouble so far with the Tikka rings.

For the record I used Seekins rings and a full length rail on my custom Tikka 6.5-06 Ackley with a VX3 6.5-20x50

Have one on my 06. Got it from camera land its been a great scope. I did a bunch of research before I got it and I've shot it a ton last year at all times of daylight but have taken it on only one hunt as I normally archery hunt
