@Formidilosus read through the process and only thing I can add is to maybe add witness marks/torque stripes to the rings and bases. Would be an easy way to verify that it is truly the scope having issues and not something else in the stack. Noticed on at least one of the scope evals, tracking issues stopped after tightening mounts.

No scope in the evals has had rings come loose? There have been a couple that at manufactures stated torque, the scopes slipped. That stops when torqued sufficiently.

And…

I forget which one, maybe the Zeiss where you said the mounts were failing and so switched out. Was wondering how you were telling. But if you’re marking them up like that, it all makes sense (y) I was envisioning marks on the tube as well for slippage.

The Zeiss mounts are just garbage. The design won’t take impacts at all.

Can you do an evaluation on different brands and colors of nail polish and their relation to providing proper witness marks in the field?

😄

I used a plain white paint pen last time I mounted a scope for witness marks, so I assume I'm operating under a disadvantage.

My google recommendations about to get weird then.

Avaliable at good ole target.

We all know ryan is the walmart shopper with his mandalorian crocs. He "claims" his wife bought them but he sure knew alot about them........Seems suspect. @Ryan Avery

I have read a few posts with the comment that the 1 piece mounts are causing parallax issues. I am not understanding how? granted this whole drop test is eye opening to me. But im not seeing how 1 piece are causing issues and 2 piece correcting it? Im open minded and like everything in long range shooting the more you know the less you know. Just trying to learn more!
Being heavily invested in Spuhr mounts because i thought they eliminated all these variables!

Wrong thread? No mention of parallax vs mounts in this thread.

Sorry if I missed it… I’m assuming it’s a SWFA or a Nightforce, but which model was it ?

@fbhandler Think I found the answer on one of the other threads

Hello,
My first post here, and I am fascinated with this subject of scopes holding zero.
You say you found the answer on another thread.
Please post a link to it .
Thank You Very Much!

Tonight I finished my read through of this 12 page thread and I am so appreciative of the info imparted!
Now I've made a purchase of a used SWFA 3-9x42 with SFWA rings and a glare shield for the lens.
Alas, the company rep said there's NO ETA for new ones when I called a couple of days ago.
Now to look back and find those instructions that spell out how to donate to this cause of drop testing scopes!

Form, have you done any evals on the Sightron s-tac? Just wondering if that would be a good option where it’s so hard to get the SWFA 6x and 3-9.

I have not. It would be a good one to eval.
