I probably could have got 100% back if I sent it back today. But I mounted and want to try. I have time issues, other than the hunt.
Who would pay 90% for a used scope?
As far as eye issues, how do you explain I am ok with every other scope I own?
People are acting like I crapped on the floor, but if you search this forum, I am not the only to bring up these concerns, and people have had LED failures.
Personally, I own that exact same scope. I am closer to 60 years old than I am to 40, and I cant read my phone, even with the giant font, unless I have my readers on. I absolutely will not use a lot of reticles hunting because I cant see them well enough in the thick/dark woods I normally hunt. Even then, I think this reticle is perfectly adequate, and I am quite certain I wont need to use the illumination until near dark, if at all. I put mine on a remington pump gun I use for tracking whitetails here in northern new england. I can easily see someone not liking the "centered" crosshair that doesnt extend to the edges, and I can see preferring a more traditional duplex that is wider all the way to the center, but I'm still having a hard time understanding why your reaction is so strong ("too thin for hunting"...."useless without LED"...etc. Those are your exact words). I dont see people acting like you crapped on the floor, what I see is that people are trying to help, but between the "unusable" langauge you are using and not understanding how the illumination works, not having adjusted diopter, etc, it makes me and probably others question if there is something wrong with your eyes or that you havent properly adjusted the diopter, etc becasue other folks who hunt in similar conditions as you have not had the problems you are having. If it's not what you want there is no issue with that, it's the fact that what you are saying doesnt jive with what I and other people see when they look thru that same scope that is making people question you.
Sounds like you havent even shot it. So whether its 90% or whatever--I just threw 90% out as an example-- yes, I think there would be someone that would pay close to that for a mounted once and never shot scope, given that its one of the only 1" tube non-dialing scopes that has come close to passing the drop tests here and they are already discounted 30% at europtic where I assume you bought it. Regardless, you are making a mountain out of how terrible the reticle is as if it were an uber-thin ffp target reticle, AND you're worried about the illumination crapping out and apparently planning on using it lit-up all day long??? I dont particularly care whether you think its terrible or not, the point is that you are fighting this tooth and nail every step of the way, going on about how its not going to work. If you truly think the reticle is un-usable as you've said multiple times now, then I'm simply suggesting that one possibly good solution would be to cut your losses and get a scope with a reticle you can love. Earlier you said you found it odd to replace a $1000 scope with a $500 scope. Maybe try a 3-10 SHV with a more standard duplex reticle?
edit: Your quote:
"Why would think it superior to have a thin and poorly colored rectile?" I dont. What I am saying is that I dont find this reticle either too thin to be useable 98% of the time, or poorly colored. What I see is a jet-black, crisp reticle that has a wider thin-section than a standard duplex. It is thinner than some reticles, but I personally have used many much thinner reticles and I own several of those--I dont consider this reticle too thin for hunting, even in thick brushy timber in low light. I have started several threads on this forum looking for more visible reticles because I think so many of them DO suck. However, I dont think that list includes this reticle--see my above comments. It may not be how I'd design the reticle, and I'd totally understand if you simply said you want a thicker reticle, but if the reticle appears "poorly colored" to you, "washed out" or "unuseable", I really think the diopter isnt adjusted properly or you have a problem scope.
