Luke, I'm hoping you didn't misinterpret my posts. I have no fear of trying the external tie and know I can do the sewing as well as any pro. I'm going to do it and see what I think of a trekking pole in place of the 2 piece aluminum unit. I think I would simply move the pole inside if the winds get heavy.
