What it the logic of this comb design, what is it supposed to do? Why aren't the manufacturers jumping on this? What about the military teams shooting bolt guns?

The rostock reminds me of another fad from a few years back. View attachment 793452
The first post of this thread links to a thread that explains the logic.

There is a simple rule in life, theory must always bow to reality. Your theory is absolutely crushed by the reality of using this stock.

This is a pic of the whole slik sling installed but I’ve since switched to the exo buttstock “bucket” and used the top attachment of the slik sling. Keeps it secure but also is quick and easy to remove the rifle when needed regardless of how full the pack is. I will snap a pic of how I use it tonight when I get home. I much prefer the butt of the stock attached to the bag rather than the hip belt.

Hope these show it well enough. If not I can take some more. If you have not seen how the slik sling works here’s a
YouTube video demonstrating how you would deploy your rifle using it and will probably do a better job than my pics at showing how the system as a whole works. Mine isn’t quite as fast since k3 buttstock “bucket” is a tighter fit around the stocks but I much prefer how the rifle carries the way I use it vs the original slik sling bucket. I can have it off and shouldered in less than 5 seconds most the time. Plus the weight of the rifle carried on the bag is much more comfortable than having the weight pulling on your waistbelt imo. I have used a gun bearer a fair bit and it worked but I didn’t love having the rifle cradled under my armpit sticking up in front of my face, just seemed to get in the way especially when hiking uphill or glassing. I have carried it this way for lots of miles hiking riding atv’s and dirtbikes and it’s been solid.

Thanks for the extra pics. I dont have the k3 part, but the k4. Never thought to use the k4 rifle bucket and the slik sling top. I had the slik sling on it before the k4 setup was available. Wasn't a fan of it how it rode. I will try your mod on the weekend.

If someone would make a stock like the one from the FN 30-11 I could get excited about that. It has not only the higher heel to the butt but also a straightline comb. I have shot several of these and I don't know anyone that was not impressed with the ergonomics. The butt can be adjusted for length of pull and comb height with spacers.

Ask a NRA Hi-Power competitor about the need for keeping your spot weld on the stock, they will tell you if you cannot your position will be inconsistent.

I have no issues keeping my “spot weld” on the comb shooting a Rokstock. You just aren’t getting it. Until you try one for yourself you’re just speculating.

As to that FN stock I’m not a fan of steps in the stock where the rear bag rides. I want it straight, flat and parallel or close to parallel to the forend.

Yes speculating based on experience and having an AA from Utah Technical College in Gunsmithing (76-78) where stock design was a pretty big subject. Formerly a gunsmith at SOTIC prior to adoption of the M24 (we built our own rifles based on VN era M40's acquired from a DCM warehouse). Formerly SOTIC NCOIC and more than 20 years Special Operations experience and many of those in sniper employment. But you are right, I am just speculating based I what I see.

Bags? I am not big carrying them around, not very practical for hunting. Slings are the way to go.

It’s really apparent you are stuck in the past. Yes bags in the field. Many light functional bags are available for field use. We all carry them.

Advocating for slinging up to shoot in the field is well….. got no time for that silliness. Those days are again past.

I don't carry a dedicated shooting bag, but my possibles pouch / kill kit (aside from the bags) has been used ALOT as a shooting bag over the years. ;)

As another vet, thanks for your service, but also as a vet, slinging around a resume, particularly a very old one, is something to be laughed at and unworthy of respect. Particularly as you are using that experience to argue against reality and discouraged adaptation.

As a side, modern military snipers will use rear bags. Some things don't change, but others do, and 50 year old experience is just that. Hell, my experience is less that 15 years old, but I will freely admit it is dated.

Not to derail this thread any further, but here's a Rokstock related question: is anyone using some combination of the following?

Tikka T3x
Rokstok
Hawkins UL Tactical LOW rings
NF 2.5-10x42

If so, how is your cheek weld and sight picture? Did you need a cheek riser at all? I ask because I'm using the above set up in a factory stock, and would rather not do new rings etc unless I have to. I needed to add a cheek riser to the factory stock to get a good sight picture, but I plan on ordering a Rokstock the instant I see them available.

Not that set up, but figure scope center above bore center.

I've used 1.59 inches, 1.65 inches, and 1.69 inches hight above bore without issues.

If you haven't done that before.
1. measure scope objective = (O)
2. measure barrel diameter below objective = (B)
3. at the same spot measure bottom of barrel to top of scope objective = (T)

T-O/2-B/2= hight above bore.
