I would like to see this equalized somehow. How about everyone wears a 25 pound pack? Or weight classes? Under 175 and Over 175. It's really a contest built for athletes highly capable of body weight exercises. I'm 230 pounds and cranked out 35 yesterday. With conditioning perhaps I could get 50.
How about an over 50 category too. There are lots of prizes and something to encourage mass participation would excellent.

Too bad I just got hurt, maybe I will heal up enough by then.

I think that it will take 150 plus to win. I can do around 100 on a PT test so with unlimited time I see it getting a lot higher!

Ya, with my 81.5" armspan each of my pushups is like four of some you guy's pushups. Kind of like watching the 5 foot 90lb guy in gym class pump out 50 four-inch pullups in 30 seconds. I'm out.:)

I feel your pain, I squeak 6 feet tall, but wing span is 78.5 inches.

Just got over a nasty bug so today was my "weigh in day". 29 is my official starting number (pretty disappointed that I couldn't make it to my age). Pretty sobering as to how I've neglected my upper body exercises in the last few years. Not gonna win, but I'm not gonna quit.

I'll have to say, push-ups have got to be one of the most boring exercises! But, today I did my 10 sets of 10 isometrics. Took me an average of 1 minute to complete each set of 10. Gave myself plenty of time to rest between sets, so I started each new set on the 5 minute mark (total of 40 minutes for 10 sets.) I also finished up with lunges to release some testosterone.

If anyone is interested in trying this, I know for sure it works. About 6 years ago I did 10 sets of 10 isometric push-ups every Monday, super-setting the first 5 sets with pull-ups and then doing standing rows after the last 5 were complete. I did this for about 2 months maybe and other exercises during the week. I had 3 consecutive rest days and that started to seem like too much, so I began doing regular push-ups on Fridays. I had been working out before I started the isometrics but usually burned out after about 300 push-ups (obviously not in one set.) When I added the regular push-ups back into my routine along with the isometrics I was doing on Mondays within a couple weeks I was doing 800 in 60 minutes! I would do 4 sets of 50, 5 sets of 40, 10 sets of 30 and 4 sets of 25 dropping the rest time 30 seconds each time I decreased the number of reps. I don't know what my max reps were at that time because I never checked to see.

It should take about one minute to get the 10 reps for one set. Clench everything up - abs, glutes and legs as tight as possible for the duration of the set to get the maximum benefit (don't hurt yourself.) By the 5th or 6th set you should be approaching failure on the final reps of the set. By the 9th and 10th sets you may have to speed up the reps or stretch out a bit between reps to hit all of them. If you don't get a bit of a head rush and see a few dots before your eyes on the final reps of the last set, you're probably not doing them right! Drink an 8 oz. glass of milk with a couple raw eggs and brown sugar mixed in or your favorite protein powder or drink within 10 to 15 minutes of completion. Eat a high protein meal within an hour or two.

(I'm not a personal trainer or a nutritionist, so don't even think about sewing me if you injure yourself!)

Got a lot of work to do... I did three sets tonight to near failure. 45, 55, 50... About 5 minutes in between each set. Doubt I'll get any prizes but it's good motivation!

Ha Ha Ha, I'm just imagining what most women would be thinking when reading about this pushup contest. Can hear them now, goes something like "Wow, are you guys still in high school? Why don't you all just drop your pants and see who's is the biggest."

Don't think I'll be in the running on this contest but suppose I'll see how many I can build up too. 100 straight Burpies, now that's a challenge.

Yea, burpees are mean. Not sure you are aware but burpees actually were invented by Satan as punishment for those not fit for hell. The first time I did the crossfit WOD "GI Jane" was a miserable experience.
