"Rokslide Classifieds" clogged and cluttered - consider separating?

I'm curious....am I in the minority of folks that use the "search" to look for something? I use it when I'm looking for a particular subject in the forum, AND it works in the classifieds too. Found a tripod that I wanted last week after doing a search. Saw only tripods, plus one pack that wanted to be traded for a tripod.

There is a firearms forum for those of us in the Northwest that has every classified section listed separately, and it seems to work that way also.

You just blew everyone's brain

No question search function works. I suppose most posters that have been around four or five years or more and have made posts with the bulk of them in the for sale sections are interested in conversation.

My wish would be that the classified ads didn't come up when you click what's new. If/when I'm looking to buy something, I go to the search bar and find it easily. I just get frustrated when I click on what's new only to find that Joe Scmoe has just updated his 12 classified ads again!

I agree, the classifieds ARE a freaking joke for guys to do a minimum number of posts and throw up their goods for sale. First six pages the majority are bumps from weeks or months ago. Anyone posting something new today is reverted to the second page within a half day.

Rokslide has got a moderator workload problem, if they can't fix it, it will become a joke more than it already is. Moderators are fine, but they obviously can't do what they're asked to because every one of them says they can't watch enough stuff to catch everything and it's up to participants to point it out to them. Make it a free-for-all, it's kind of what it is already, as I personally have not seen a post called out or otherwise moderated for other reasons either.
A forum I use to frequent had the different areas broke up and mods had areas of responsibility. Not sure if they do that here but it was pretty nice because a mod would only have one or two sections they monitored and you could get a feel for each mod and know where the boundaries were.

Might be something worth considering.

New user getting my post count up so I can BUY from the classifieds - coming over from Calguns where the server is fubar but the classifieds there are at least separated into 1) Handguns, 2) Long Guns, 3) Firearm accessories, and 4) All Other

Kind of surprised there are not more categories here for a larger community. Definitely agree if clothing is taking over, make a new category.

Definitely would be advantageous if there were multiple categories as you suggested. Minor refinement but would make a big difference

I agree the 24 hour bump and making an add for each glove, sock, shirt etc, then bumping them all in a row is annoying.

One thing that might be worth looking at is how SH handled this - from memory, they shifted to having categories / tags built into the classifieds, so you can turn off if you don't want to see a certain category - in the Slide's case, perhaps clothing.

I like that, good idea.

The the top "clean out" post in RS classifieds right now, TWO discussion posts in the past year, 50+ (3 pages and counting) posts dealing with selling, bump, etc. Case and point, joined 2020.

Is this what RS is about, inarguably wanting to sell and little to do with being a part of the greater community.

It's not going away. However, it is SO clear why some/many in classifieds are here. I'm not gonna pull any punches on that. Don't see many of the guys going toe to toe (lol) pissing each other off, making up, etc talking about monos and small caliber bullets posting to the extent in classifieds that many "classified" members are. If you don't take part in regular discussion, pay a fee. It is abundantly clear that line and intent exists.

I don’t understand your first paragraph.
