"Rokslide Classifieds" clogged and cluttered - consider separating?

Recent post selling 7mm Rem Mag ammo (first posted this ad in 2023) in the last 20 min, since Dec of 2021 this poster hasn't added a thing to the forum after what appears to be the required posts. Still a FNG after almost 4 years??? Come on, does this cluttering fall on deaf ears?

I’m not 100% sure if I’m seeing what you’re seeing. Can you PM me a link to that ad or maybe go to that ad and report it?

People just need to stick to the categories. Gun stuff goes in guns. guns, actions, barrels, ammo, brass, bullets.
Any archery goes into archery
Optics; binos, rangefinder, spotters, tripods
All other crap goes into the regular classifieds.

And if something sells, it needs to be deleted.

And..."all other crap" is about half clothing of various kinds, which is why it needs its own category. It's not about how to figure out where to put it, it's about having a better, more enjoyable, and less cluttered experience.

I hardly go in the other crap category, just don’t need clothing, tents, boots or other stuff much

But do miss out sometimes when people post gun/bow/optic stuff in the other crap category not knowing how to use the categories properly.

That's exactly the problem for me - like you I'm not interested in clothing, but I'm definitely interested in looking through random gear postings, whether it's some rangefinder pouch, or a knife, or some other piece of gear I might be interested in trying, but not enough to buy new. I definitely don't understand why things like brass, bipods, or other gun stuff (or archery stuff, or optics stuff) keeps getting posted in the general section though.

Eh, I like having record of past sales for pricing info.

Gives you an idea but you don’t really know what it sold for.

I’d rather it be deleted and keep the thread current and clean

I can see there needs to be a few more categories, packs/tents, clothes/boots.
But also if people can’t use the correct
Categories now, how much will it really help.

Long range hunter has a good breakdown of categories

Pricing is just part of it. Deleted ads don’t help with SEO.

Currently 17/20 newest posts are classified ads bumps. Be pretty sweet if we had that option to see what's new in classifieds and what's new sans classified ads. Just a new button?

Another local forum that I am on limits the ability to bump an ad to every five days. It also has section a for "new classified" which includes all categories in the classifieds. It is nice being able to check it quickly. I think you would need a longer duration in-between bumps for this to work well. Or the system only shows new classified when originally listed.

On the other forum bumping is automatically regulated by the system in place meaning there is a tab that allows you to select "bump" and if it is before the required 5 day waiting period it will not allow you to bump. Eliminates the need for moderators making sure people are following the rules.

How you program that crap in the classified or anywhere for that matter is above my pay grade. I am sure it will take somebody a bit of time to do any changes.

I like the five day rule, but what it will do is create a conga line of bumps every five days. With the volume on the classifieds, this forum gets, it'll just delay the inevitable and the same guys will be bumping every five days. And the same guys will be bumping the next five days until it's the same guys bumping all the time. Just five days apart. Guys that do that have no intention to be part of the forum as we have been discussing. Make it so there's a tracking of contributions to threads and see how much trouble guys want to go through with that extra step.

From a guy chasing down scammers daily, this would prob be the best thwarting effort.

That's a great idea...maybe some sort of ratio of normal contributions to WTS/bumps allowed?

Personally, I'm more bothered by repeated bumps, or using this place as a personal ebay, than I am someone who mostly lurks and reads but doesn't post much, yet posts in the classifieds occasionally. It would be unfortunate for that kind of a person to get caught up in anti-scam or anti-spam efforts.

There's always going to be a gray area, I totally agree though. It's easy to pick those guys out from the ones that are using it as a personal eBay and Craigslist. I would have expected some folks that operate that way to post here and offer defense or counterpoints. If it's important I'd like to hear the counter points to the issue we are discussing.
