Rokslide Approved LPVO?

I really like my swfa 1-6 and feel it’s the most functional of several I’ve owned.

Runner up is the trijcon credo (not the hx), which is available in mrad with pretty similar reticle to the swfa, just a bit thinner.

Imo

Big fan of my NX8. It has the older FC mil reticle, which can be annoying on small targets at distance, but is great up close even with no illumination.

I have not had eyebox issues on 1x, but I read that setting the diopter specifically at 1x for the best clarity (no tunneling or fishbowl effect) is the way to go with these if 1x is the priority. Still works fine for me at higher mag, but I am usually staying around 6x on the top end.

I am a huge Nightforce fan, and have NX8's on all my stuff. I began using them back in 2019 or thereabouts when the capped turret models came out.

Several things I have noticed:

1) They are boring. That is to say, you always get what you dial, they just hold zero, boring.

2) You need to tighten the piss out of the diopter, or it WILL walk on you. Some people use tape, but this is not really the way. It's a jam nut. Torque it. I use a small rubber strap wrench (Cheap, I am not trying to apply loads of torque, it's just that when on the rifle, I cannot really grasp much of the ring.)

3) 7-8x are really best used in clear atmosphere, during brighter times of day. Up to 6x, optically it really holds up well.

4) Diopter is extremely finicky on these, however, once set, it's G2G. I typically will set them at about 25m on 1x to achieve true unity with my un-aided eye in the center of the reticle. The zone 3 (for NV users) has a fair bit of fisheye to it. Ignore this when setting diopter. The image of the NX8 gets EXTREMELY close to true unity, but it is not flat. Running it on a clock is great, but white-wall hunting with it will drive you buggy. It's a functional image, not a pretty one, regarding that.

5) Red-dot bright. They are the best scope I've used, regarding this. The FC-Mil better than FC DMx, but it's not a functional difference, just on paper/white wall.

6) Over time, these scopes seem to have evolved optically. NF denies any rolling improvements, but with multiple examples set the same way, diopter-wise, my latest NX8s have been much more "clear" than my FC-Mil earlier scope.

How do you know the newer ones from the older ones?

Reviving this as I've been on the hunt for a 1-(6-8) LVPO, and watching a lot of c_does youtube videos, despite the lack of drop tests! Credo/Accupoint 1-8 on my shortlist, along with Vortex Gen 2-E 1-6, and this thread making me think the NX8 1-8 as well.

I'm wondering if I should try and find a used SWFA 1-6 though? I have the 3-9 on my RSS tikka and love it, but haven't gotten much info on the 1-6 apart from "it's better than the 1-4". Eye relief as good as the Credo @Shraggs? Takes a beating and holds zero like the other well regarded SWFAs?

As far as glass and features go, most folks consider the Vortex Razor LPVO to be the gold standard. The NFs have poor eye boxes comparatively. However, don’t think I’ve seen any true drop test comparisons of the Vortex against NF, Trijicon, etc.

1-8 ATACR, good glass, good eye box.

Kahles’ 1-6 glass and eye box/FOV probably most would find better than any Vortex LPVO.

I think the Razors are a standard of comparison, not a gold standard per se.

Have one and it works well
Fits budget
Passed the eval
Not much more is needed unless you kick in doors for a living. A great Timmy Tacticool option

What’s the concern with the swfa 1-6?
Availability.

I hate to have even more people crowding the used market, but they are a great LVPO option.

I have found the reticle to be very useful for a lot of situations. On lox X they're like a like a large aperture peep; crank to 6x and it's the MQ reticle without any heavy lines or circles to conflate a more finite aiming process at longer ranges.

A little late, sorry

I have both the credo mil and swfa mil. They are pretty similar. The credo is brighter with a larger fov, but a thin reticle and illumination isn’t functionally useful in good light.

The swfa has a slightly tighter eye box but still very good and similar to the 3-9. The reticle is a favorite of mine due to center dot and significantly bolder than the credo.

If you found one it’s worth a go, but not supported anymore. Hard to not pick either the credo or the NF.

I recall Form mentioned sone time ago the the trijcon 1-8 is solid too but I don’t have any first hand experience.

Sounds like you want a dialing scope, but I picked up an accupoint 1-6 last fall for a deer rifle. Its a set it and forget it scope, bright for what it is, but I’ve found the eye relief and general “look thru-ability” to be exceptional. Ive had another trijicon scope (3-9 credo) as well as plenty of leupolds, etc, and the eyebox on this scope is very noticeably good—thats probably the one thing about this scope that really stands out to me. Cant really comment on the durability other than that it has held zero so far based on a post-season zero check.

I'm happy with the 1-6 Trijicon Credo HX on my SFAR. The fine red dot is wonderful for young eyes. Holds zero well, and is fairly bright and crisp.

I’ve found the 1-6 Accupoint that rode around on my 375 Ruger for a few years (before I moved it to an AR to scratch a momentary itch that digests cheaper ammo) to hold zero exceptionally well on multiple fly out Alaskan knock around adventures, including me busting my ass and landing on the rifle twice packing out a big Blacktail down Kodiak’s lovely muddy steep hillsides, TSA, plenty of recoil cycles, tipping over to fall into the alders when a gust moved the limbs too much, etc.
I think I’ll have to buy another probably. Only minor gripe is SFP, but that’s due to the fiber optic (which I like a lot) and keeping 1-2x super useful. I don’t think there’s a better LPVO for a ‘brush gun’ in terms of simple ease of use per dollar on a mid range hunting rifle.
***Edit just to say ‘I totally agree’. Getting behind this scope is a pleasure and very fast, just ‘bam!’ instant big beautiful sight picture.
