On paper, I like the 1-6x24 Zeiss V6 or Tract Toric, but I think you’d probably suggest otherwise?
That’s Schmidt would be one. No experience with the LPVO of Zeiss V6 or Tract.

Do I remember you saying the accupoints do well? That’s Schmidt would be one. No experience with the LPVO of Zeiss V6 or Tract.
You know, I’d run with an Accupoint if it weren’t for the finite lifespan of that tritium dot. Don’t they only last 8-10 years or so? I got chonies older than that!Do I remember you saying the accupoints do well?
I'm considering the 3-9x40 on a couple rifle I want to keep slim, aka no tall turrets.

Depends on the color, I think green is 12.You know, I’d run with an Accupoint if it weren’t for the finite lifespan of that tritium dot. Don’t they only last 8-10 years or so? I got chonies older than that!
The nxs compacts are what you are looking for. Too bad all of the reticles except mil-r, and moar are discontinued. An Np-1 reticle would be about perfect. What I really want is basically a Vx2 3-9/4-12 but will actually work.
But it just appears there is no good options for a regular old hunting rifle scope.

Yep. Always a tradeoff. I could personally live with the giant turret on that SWFA 3X9, but the FFP aspect I cannot live with. Those huge Turrets are also my gripe with the Swarovski X5. Annoying and unnecessary it seems. Plenty of companies make quality turret and erector assemblies without them being oversized.Depends on the color, I think green is 12.
Yellow is lowest.
But it is what it it. The Optic will still have a cross hair and fiber optics.
You've been on the search way harder then I have. And im less picky then you..
What options are there they don't have tall turrets or a huge objective that actually work?
I don't even care about how heavy, ill put up with a reticle I don't like. Cost is definitely a concern.
But my coyote gun i need it to be fast and snag free. I want it to sit up front along my console with the butt under the armrest.
Based on what I've read the swfa 3-9 is about it. The turrets are bigger then id really want.
But if no single average scope will hold up then I guess I'll just have to buy a trijicon every 10 yrs.
Supposed the 2.5-15 credo is the next logical but its still slightly bulkier then I really want.

I feel like there are options for long range scopes.
And I totally understand Rokslide can't cater to testing everything.

Yep, but they are so short that they may need a rail on some long/mag actions. Don’t love that idea either.NF 3-10x SHV’s work.
I have over looked thisNF 3-10x SHV’s work.

I miss the old Leupold!
I think they made a run of 3-15sfp. But probably pretty hard to find.Yep. Always a tradeoff. I could personally live with the giant turret on that SWFA 3X9, but the FFP aspect I cannot live with. For mag range and form factor, yes.Something lighter like the Trijicon Ascent 3-12x40.
Yes you can.I could personally live with the giant turret on that SWFA 3X9, but the FFP aspect I cannot live with.
I see what you are saying (Formidilosus has found scopes possessing certain characteristics to be reliable and preferred), but seems the Ascent could be a viable candidate for testing. The SHV 3-10x42 and NX 2.5-10x42 seem to be regularly recommended as rugged, repeatable hunting scopes that are SFP and MOA reticles without the typical target turrets. For mag range and form factor, yes.
But SFP and with BDC reticle, it's not going to appeal to Form, or a lot of the rest of us here, or to Ryan's wish to test scopes suited to LR hunting.

This is going on a magnum length M70. It's longer than a standard "long" action. This gun also has some odd spaced holes tapped in it (I bought it that way) that preclude me from using a commercially available pic rail. Plus I can't stand the thought of a rail on a M70.
It had extended 1" DD Leupold bases on it when I bought it with an older VX3 2.5-8. Worked fine, but I regretfully swapped that scope onto another rifle and sold it. I don't want to take the risk on a new Leupold. The tube length is similar to the SHV and NXS compact, but that Leup had a lot more eye relief, so it worked. The SHV, is close, but not perfect. It needs a rail.
