Re Bushnell: if you do a search here under Form's posts from some years ago, he mentions specific people working on the Bushnell side who specc'd out what was needed (and are no longer there). Not sure if that included Tom or not.

Certainly 'back in the day' Jacob Bynum recommended the Bushnell Elites ... not sure if they were the Elite Tacticals or just Elites ... you'd have to check out his old videos. (And, for what it's worth, he gave airtime to some pretty questionable marketing by Leupold on his podcast a year or two ago.) Frank and Mark's tests from a few years ago usually showed the Bushnells as passing (and Leupolds failing) before they pulled the results. Pretty sure Frank said on a podcast that this was due in part to complaints from the industry.

In all fairness not many people have controlled all the variables within the rifle system that form has. If he did it and it passed great but if it failed there would be a big question around what actually failed

Exactly this. Also let’s be honest, most people aren’t willing to possibly (purposefully almost) break their optics to see if they could possibly break, not knowing whether or not the warranty would actually help them.

I have an old 1" Elite Tactical that's been through Hell, including air rifles. I still use it to proof loads at 100 yards. It's the silly Mildot with MOA movements but man do I have faith in it.
