Rifle scope recommendations

Get the Leupold. They are rock solid scopes. Not gadgety, just good quality, clear glass. I have a vx2 on a hunting rifle and killed a nice pig with it this morning. vx2 is a really nice scope....not just for the money but a nice scope that stacks up against more expensive scopes. Made in USA, great warranty. What's not to like. It's also quite a bit lighter than the competition.

I own or owned every brand mentioned. My buddy picked up some vortex diamondbacks. I wasn't impressed. For a few more bucks you can get a much better scope. I think Leupold makes some good lower end scopes. The vx2 and the vx3i are very nice for the price. I have a few conquests and really like them. To the OP, you should get your hands on a few scopes. Everyone's eyes are different. If your hunting whitetails you will need a scope that's good at dawn and dusk.

Zeiss Conquest is always a good choice.

The Leupold VX-6 is a different class though. Great glass and easy to get behind with a great view box. My preferred hunting scope.

Thanks for the advice.
I have looked through the vortex viper and viper HS. I have also looked through the Zeiss conquest scope. I own a meopta meopro and really really like that scope. The viper is on the bottom of the list in this group. The viper HS, conquest and meopta all look about the same to me. I own a leupold vx1 that I don't like too much. I bought the wrong reticle when I bought the leupold.

Buy a used scope from a reputable company.

Bought a sightron s2 big sky 3-9 for 150 bucks. hhr reticle and that things been slammed and dropped and beat to all hell. Still tracks good after many afternoons of prairie dog shooting and the reticle gets me to 450 without dialling. Glass is a bit darker the a z3 swaro but the contrast is phenomenal!

Vx3i would get my dollars for a new piece of glass. 3.5-10 is beyond a great deal and a with a b&c reticle it'll do what ur asking

If you are using the bottom of the line in a scope brand it's sort of ludicrous to badmouth them until you've tried they're TOP of the line - I use Leupold VX3i exclusively(and they're not even the "top", have used VX3 and Vari X scopes for many years - I've wandered a bit and tried Kahles, Zeiss, Nikon, Bushnell and have always come back to what is the best IMO, LEUPOLD - I could care less what you use because "it's not my dog" but don't talk something down if you don't really know what you're talking about - I've muffed my share of shots but NONE that I can blame on the scope - BTW, Leupold INVENTED the lightweight AND dependable scope

vx2 I use on hunting rifles to kill the pig nice

and the VX3i line is even better than that ! if you read the Leupold website it states that they adjusted the retail price DOWN on the VX3i yet further advanced the optics by computerized matching of lenses - I've 2 VX3i's so far and the definition is pretty astounding

just a note for reference: early on when John Noveske had just begun building and perfecting AR's I stopped to visit him - in talking about optics he told me the "operators" he was building rifles for used Schmidt and Benders exclusively and I asked "why no Leupolds ?" he looked at me quizzingly because he really didn't know much of Leupold - When I got home I called one of my friends at Leupold and told him to research "Noveske", he said he would - about 2 weeks later I was talking with John again on the phone and I asked him if he'd ever heard from Leupold, he said "funny, I have 5 scope boxes on my desk dropped off by the UPS driver this morning", I asked him a month later when I picked up a rifle he rebarrelled for me what kind of deal Leupold gave him ? His response was "no charge" ... my only point here is 1) Amercan made on the VX lines, Amercan assembled on all else, and 2) they support our troops unquestioningly - some others do and some don't , the list should so designate (Vortex was started by Veterans) - some care about this sort of information and some don't, which are you ?

Ok so I narrowed it down

Zeiss conquest
Meopta meopro
Leupold vx3i

Leaning towards the leupold more cause I want a 4-12 or 4.5-14 power. I was hoping to find a conquest with that power but cant

The VAST majority of hunters/shooters are over "X'ed", over cartridged, under scoped, under bulleted and under skilled. Take a step back: "350 yards is tops" for you- you do not need nor want 14x for that. As an aside... 6x is more than enough for 350 yards or 650 yards on big game.

All three that you mentioned above are suspect in reliability and durability (though the Leupold is the "best" of the bunch). I've had/used multiple versions of all three, and they've all had problems. On that note- forget anything Vortex. I've seen more models of Vortex optics per capita break or fail than any other. In aiming devices rugged reliability trumps all, with mechanical precision next if dialing, then eyebox/eye relief, then.... comes "glass". A scope is used for "aiming" not "watching", and as long as you can seen the target through the optic it's good enough. Any decent modern scope has glass that's fine.

Keep max power at 10x or so and below, and I'd be VERY leery of going variable unless truly needed. That out of the way, if you plan on trying to learn to consistently hit at "500 yards", get a scope that places reliability, durability and mechanical function above all else.

In your price range there are but two- the SWFA SS 6x42mm SWFA SS 6x42 Tactical Riflescope | SWFA,

and the

SWFA SS 3-9x42mm SWFA SS HD 3-9x42 Tactical 30mm Riflescope | SWFA

If you if you do not care about shooting past MPBR and you just have to have a "hunting" scope, then the Leupold fixed 6x42mm is absolutely what I would choose.... Though the SWFA 6x kills it for actual use.

Not trying to be rude, but not really sure what the point of the story is? The fact remains that units and organizations use/used the S&B Shortdot 1-4x because Leupold refused to build what that unit requested. I've had to deal with issued Leupold scopes on sniper rifles for over a decade. I grew up where if it wasn't a Leupold "it ain't worth having", but it didn't take all that long once I started actually shooting with them to see that they have major issues.
