Non-Tikka Hunting Rifle Recommendations

In fairness, the buck I shot with the AR 2 seasons ago was 1 of the bloodiest 40 yard sprints I have ever seen. However, it is the only one I have ever shot with .223, it was at probably 60 yards, broadside no quartering, heart shot, and an inexpensive lead soft point from Hornady. Main thing about changing the caliber is I would like a little more wind resistance. .223 does get bullied a little bit in stiff wind. And, in all reality, I just think the 6mm ARC is cool.
Edit
***Forgot to add last sentence. Some states don’t allow .22 cal so I figure the .24 cal will help avoid a headache later down the road since I do like travel out-of-state.
I've eaten a lot of deer shot killed with .223s and 6.5Gs. I've also helped people try to find a lot of deer lost with 6mms. I'm sure whatever you choose will work if applied carefully; even a slow 6mm.

What a fanatical expert can do, and forget to admit when he didn't, is different from actual, general application in practice. In other words, 6mms suck and you're typing out of your backside.

So, a .224" diameter bullet works, a .264" diameter bullet works, but a .243" diameter bullet doesn't? Can you explain that?

I also love it when people come on here and imply that those of us who tend to use smaller cartridges are just out there wounding animals all the time and are routinely lying through omission about it.

Sorry, didn't know those tiny things you call deer wear body armor.

Our moose, caribou, bears and goats all die just fine from 22 and 24 cal bullets.
Its weird how they dont notice .021 and .04 inches in bullet diameter. Almost like something so trivial is irrelevant. So small you need calipers to measure but that deer is going to laugh at you because he sure can. I'm sure it basically bounces off.

Since we got you down to 6mm, go pick up a howa carbon barreled mini action in 6 ARC from Brownell's and find a stock you love to put on it.
I'm about to take the plunge on this too. Howa mini in 6 ARC seems like a good budget option for the ultralight backpack gun. Any recommendations on the chassis? JTAC elf-owl?

I have a buddy with a howa and a weatherby vanguard not sure on the model but he seems to like both of them and they shoot pretty well for factory guns

I've got both. I was considering upgrading the weatherby vanguard in .308. my brother asked me if I was stupid. I'd killed a deer with every shot I'd taken outside of the range.

I personally think Howa is slept on. A little heavy for your average wimp, not as smooth out the box as some. But every one I've owned shoots.
