Rifle scope recommendations

The vx6 is out of my price range. I did just find out that leupold has military discount. I applied for it. Curious to see what it is. Truly appreciate they offer that

This $500 scope is $249 at Cabelas.

I picked one of these up a couple weeks back and mounted it on a savage lightweight hunter 6.5. So far, for the price, seems like a nice scope. I like it better then my nikon monarch. Vortex websites ballistic calculator seems pretty accurate.

Vortex is funny... a couple years back they were all the rage, but seem to be falling out of favor - what issues are you all having with this scope or the viper line?

There seems to be two lines of thought - those who are dialing every shot, and those who primarily hunt and use holdover. In my opinion, if you are just using a 100 or 200 yard zero, and not dialing tons of drop data, you can get away with a lot less scope then those who are dialing all the time.

I have killed piles of critters with nikon pro staffs and monarch - and hope to with the vortex.

Just my .02 - consider purpose and price range.

Not picking a fight or anything. Im just wondering why you say its over rated - what quality issues etc have you ran into, and at the 250 price point, what has performed better for you etc... understand leupold is getting a lot of love, but some of us cant afford vx 3s or 6s

All I have is 3-9x40 Zeiss conquests. I've looked through 4 vortex vipers and owned 2 crossfires for my 22 and 22mag. They wasn't clear in higher power and even with focusing the vipers they was still quite foggy looking. If you want to spend 250$ ad 50$ more and buy a used Zeiss conquest it's worth it

Ive got several and they all perform excellent. I also own Zeiss and Leupold but way more Vortex.

For $250 its a steal with side parallax and bdc, 1/4 click turrets that easily reset to 0.

The Leupold VXII is not in the same class as this viper.

the vortex seems like a great deal but so does the conquest

why would one want a scope with parallax adjustment?

Hunting may not be as big of a deal as target, but nice to have the option if you are gonna make a 4 or 500 plus yard shot

I agree that it's a great deal on a scope. If a guy wants to get into dialing a scope for long range while saving money, the Viper line is excellent. I should have been more clear on why I like the VX2 better than the Vipers though. I'm not buying them to dial long range shots. For that I will move up to at least a VX3 if not a VX6 or Nightforce or Swaro or something along those lines. For me the glass in the Vipers is not clear enough, and I think the VX2 glass is better.

I've also seen too many Vortex products fail in the field for my taste. Every one of my friends who went out and bought Vortex products due to the value and great warranty have had to use that great warranty and most don't own Vortex products anymore. I know people have had issues with Leupold products as well but for me they have always worked great. Heck, Ryan pretty much hates everything Leupold based on his experiences.

The Leupold VX2 line is one of, if not THE best "budget" scope line on the market today, the VX1 scopes are made much the same way but less money, if you haven't used them you cannot understand the loyalty - it makes no sense to debate the values until we meet on the trail and I'm asked "if I might have an extra scope" - spending as little as possible on rifle sights is no different than pinching pennies on a rifle, if it works you will brag it up forever but when it doesn't then it's "that dirty S.O.B." - mechanical stuff can and will break but some "stuff" breaks a lot less often IME

anyone who promotes and convinces a "novice to average" shooter to dial rather than learn how to shoot instinctively might find yerself getting cussed down the road a piece - It's not a skill that comes naturally or is learned from a magazine IMO, and damn good equipment is paramount to success (read "oops")

I prefer the bdc and LRBC

Ok so I narrowed it down

Zeiss conquest
Meopta meopro
Leupold vx3i

Leaning towards the leupold more cause I want a 4-12 or 4.5-14 power. I was hoping to find a conquest with that power but cant
