Hey what's up everyone.
I have a Mark V 300 weatherby magnum that needs glass. I was originally gonna put a Zeiss conquest 3-9, 3.5-10 or 4.5-14. They were on clearance but I can't find them anymore. I was think a Zeiss terra but keep hearing mixed reviews. Then I thought a vortex viper series or HS series. Maybe meopta. Any recommendation on a for this rifle and where to look? Thanks

Id go with a Leupold VX3i in whatever power you desire. Sounds like your price range is in the mid-range and these are hard to beat for the money. The Terra line has so many negative reviews that I would steer clear of them. Vortex makes a decent scope, with a great warranty, that you will probably end up using in the first few years. Call Doug @ cameralandNY and he will usually cut a deal or match an online price.

I've got the Zeiss Conquest... Europtic is advertising the 3-9x for $349. That's a total steal.

Hard to go wrong with a 3.5-10x VX3 either, but it will cost more.

Yeah I just saw that.
Do you think that a 3-9x40 scope is enough flavor for that rifle/caliber?

Depends on how far you're planning to shoot!

I find 9 power to be more than enough for 300-350 yds. That's the max distance I usually hunt at, but my .280ai long barrel rig wears a 4-12 just in case. I'm happy with that to 600 on targets. I've never pointed it at an animal at that range, but I'm 100% confident that it'd be plenty.

The rule of thumb is 100yds per X....so at 9X you "theoretically" could shoot 900 yds...and that's 3 times further than most folks shoot at anything.

I've made 300yd shots with a 2.5X fixed and a bunch of 350ish yd shots with a 6X fixed....9X will get you very far out there.

Yeah I would say 350 yard shot tops. I know the round is very capable. I eventually would love to just be able to shot at 500 yards, just to say I can do it.

The 4.5x14x40mm Leupold with the B&C reticle would be excellent as would the 3.5-10x40mm Leupold. My son and I both have the first one on rifles that we use and love it. He has a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10 on his 300 WSM and that's really excellent one as well. More money but the 2-12 VX6 Leupold would be solid too!

Been considering selling my Zeiss 3-9x40 conquest. I'd Stay away from the Terra's

Once you own and hunt a Leupold you will understand why experience always recommends them .....
IMO, If you are hunting Elk and larger game choose VX3i 3.5 x 10 x 40mm and I'd bet you don't look back, BUT a VX3i 4.5 x 14 x 40mm will cost a little more and you won't give up anything in the field and the 14x makes load development much easier (I just put a new one on one of the '06's last evening)
Justin's suggestion is really good too if you want to spend more the VX6 is an AWESOME scope - 99 out of 100 times Leupolds come back in for things OTHER than being broken and it doesn't matter who owns it, it's a lifetime warranty that's been in place for a lot longer than most of the other American optics companies have been in business - they also have an outstanding custom shop and an amazing list of custom reticles for reasonable cost - one of the most distinct realities of the VX3i line is how light weight they are, another is the way their optics will let you see game in cluttered fields, the contrasts are surprising - MSRP for the VX3i is about $525 but you should be able to get a new one for less - CameraLand - EuroOptics - Cabela's - Sportsmans Warehouse - the list goes on

IMO that $500.00 scope doesn't compare to a $400.00 Leupold VX3i. I think Vortex's quality is suspect in most of their products. When you get into their Razor lineup, the quality is improved greatly. Meopta made the conquest series for Zeiss, so they are pretty close to the same quality. Id be confident in either the Conquest, Meopta or VX3i. Size is simply what you prefer, but for the yardages listed, something in the 3.5-10 would be pretty slick or 4.5-14.

This $500 scope is $249 at Cabelas.

That's a great deal on a decent quality scope. With that said though, I won't own another Viper series scope. I think a VX2 is better. VX3 is better yet and the VX6 3-18 is one of my favorite all time scopes.

I shoot a lot of different rifle and scope combos too.....
