Just looked at and considering a 17 wsm Savage . Cabelas has one on sale with bushnell scope for $329. Have a 243 ar and is it great but handloads are a pain to get cycling right. A 17wsm sounds pretty interesting to me with 25 gr bullets.
Where did you get your 243 AR? Cost? Details
Please!! Lol

I have one in savage b mag and it’s a little tack driver, killed one coyote with it but I don’t have much confidence with it over 100-150 yards

I have all the basics 223, 22-250, and 243 all in Rem 700's with action work, triggers, bedded and stock. But... I just built a 22 creedmoor and can't wait to use this thing. Load data all done and I'm shooting 77 TMK's at 3500 fps and shooting .3 groups at 100 and .5 groups at 200. Gonna stretch the legs next time out but this will be a hammer on coyotes. Sold all my AR platforms a while back and stick to bolt rifles now.22 creed.jpg22 cree target.jpg

I've used .204R, .223, 22-250, .243 and currently run the original 6.5mm. A Swede.

Savage 10, Tikka T3 & Rem 700's have been my platforms, only one had a med bull bbl (.243).

The beauty of most of those calibers is you just need to "hold fur" out to around the 400yrd range and be good drop wise. No clicking up or down in the heat of the moment & if I'm zerod at 200yrds. A 3-400yrd shot is a long poke where I am, although I do have access to larger tracts a few hrs away.

All those calibers will anchor a Yote pretty decently, but for where I am currently it's hard to beat the Swede and it's BC.

It’s all personal preference, but in my opinion you can’t beat a 22-250! A lot of coyotes have taken a dirt nap with that caliber! It’s s flat shooting, hot round that lays the yotes down!

Very tempted to build a 22-250. What’s y’alls experience in barrel life?

Honestly, any caliber from 22 Mag up will kill coyotes, bobcats etc.
The most common calibers are 223/5.56, 22-250 and 243.
Also, if this rifle might double for a deer rifle, then you might look at a 243/25-06 or the uber popular 6.5 Creed.
Prices for decent rifles start around $300 and end around $650. Tikka aren’t sexy but shoot great.

I've used 6.5 Grendel 120gr AMAX on whitetail/coyote and 90gr TNT with good results on coyotes . I also have 6x45 loaded w/70gr Nosler BT, but haven't hunted with it yet

0-250yrds AR 223, scoped with 45 degree iron sights for when the pack comes to the call.
If set has longer 250-500yrds I bring the AR and my 300wm. I know its overkill but its my only other rifle that will reach out that far and it also keeps me familiar with long range shots for when I go out west. I only have a handful of guns and 3 rifles .22, .223, and 300.

The AR by far gets the most use every year, and is the best gun for the predator reduction task.

I usually carry a bolt action in 22-250 or 243 for open areas with long shots and a 12 ga if shots will be under 100yds. Nothing wrong with an ar either. Though it is nice to have a little more power and flatter trajectory than the 223 can offer

I think an ar in 204 Ruger would be a very effective set up

Ive hunted with both, and almost always grab for the bolt action. But I usually am calling with a buddy just in case we call in a double or something like that. I keep the scope at middle power though to pick them up faster, after the first shots fired.

I tend to stick with AR's mainly because its what i have and they are lighter then my ELR rig and my precision 308 LOL. Recently ive taken my new tikka t3x lite in 6.5 to get accustomed to it and am not hating the bolt action. Other then the safety, used to AR safeties flipping it down as i put my finger on the trigger (lefty) and never using a safety on my bolt guns (only shoot ELR and precision rifle matches where if your moving its open bolt)

My go to is a 204R with a 22inch cryo treated x-caliber barrel and matching bolt shooting 35gr bergers. rest of the rifle is whatever made it shoot right parts and a small custom 4 port brake.
