Recent Turo rentals for hunting?

Been digging through the archives for Turo rental experiences as we are planning our trip this fall. Turo looks like a great option until "No off road". What is off road? Most of the county roads we are looking at are dirt. Has anyone had issues with rentals on "dirt" roads? Also, seems like with Turo you can't communicate with the host until you book the rental. I think canceling is free so maybe booking the rental and then discussing with the owner is the way to go. Any other options out there?

We try to be upfront with the host and let them know we are hunting. Most who live in hunting areas are very well aware of the seasons and use so we have not had a problem. Our last host had just gotten the vehicle back from a renter who had used it to poach an elk on private property so it had been temporarily seized in the investigation. She still gladly rented to us and was a gracious host. We just wash it well in a spray car wash and vacuum the interior prior to returning.

I've had good luck with Turo, only 1 negative experience in about 30 rentals. Like above said, be up front. I usually don't say I'm hunting, but tell them I'm not going to be off roading, but some county roads are dirt/gravel. When you book, there is a spot to send a message they will see before they accept the trip, include it there. Other than that, just make sure to spend a little more time cleaning and all will be good.

Once or twice I have had them accept the trip, but through communication just gotten the feeling they were super anal about the vehicle or might be difficult about it after the fact. In that case i've just cancelled. It's super easy and no fee.

Thanks for the tips. I got in touch with my insurance company and they confirmed I am covered on the rental even through Turo.
