Im planning a backpack hunting trip in Colorado for this September. The gang is wanting to do some fishing while we are up there and I need a setup. Im looking for a lightweight and collapsible setup preferably a spinning rod combo.

We will be using pinch bait or salmon eggs for trout mainly.

Want it to be around 30 bucks for the rod and reel

I looked up tenkara, even at 1,000 budget it wouldn't be the brand for me. They don't offer anything close to what I'm looking for...

$30, don't know if you can't get a true backpacking setup. I have two eagle claw rods that break down into a little cordura case and a lightweight spin reels...all in I think I was at about $100 per setup with line. They have been great and both have caught several fish.

this is totally not what you asked for, but I've gotta say a 7'6" 3wt. Super light and compact. You can carry a ton of flies in a small box as well.

Is this a fly reel setup or cane style setup?
fly reel. I don't play the Tenkara game. I've tried it, and I can't reach places I'd like to without spooking fish that you can with a fly reel setup. I fished some heavily fished waters around Austin area and the Llano river. Tenkara didn't work well for me.

Ross Flystart and three forks rod. about as cheap as you're gonna get.

Carry a pocketful of M80's. You'll be more successful and have way more fun.

That price range can be hard for a rod and reel. Quantum Micro spin or a lighting rod may work. You might be able to find 4'6"-5' two piece rod in those. Kencore ice rods are decent for smaller trout too.

Well what I'd I bumped to 50 bucks I'd like to mention that I don't mind going used and ebay seems to offer a lot of potential for savings when going used

Daiwa minispin is around $40 and work great. I've caught many trout with this set up and its usually with me when I'm in the backcountry. There was a thread a couple years ago on here that covered this as well.

I use a $13 telescopic rod from bass pro and an old reel. It's not perfectly balanced, and nobody will be envious of my titanium graphite diamond studded spinning rod. But who cares? It will catch all the trout I want in Colorado streams and lakes. And if it breaks, so what. It's $13.

you guys may think this is off the wall but the Pen Rod and reel Combo works very well and guys are catching 23lb catfish on them. You can't find a more compact lightweight backpacking setup it is a bit north of the 30$ price range. I've caught a few 2-4 lb fish on this setup. Don't let it fool you its a capable setup.

For my money this is the classic high country backpacking rod.

I tried the Tenkara thing for a couple years and while it was fun, I prefer having the extra reach and flexibility of a real rod & reel combo. Tenkara is, however, an excellent teaching tool for new fly anglers.
