Rebuilding my first rifle

Well it's the off season and that naturally means it's time to shell out some Ben Franklins on another unnecessary rifle project 😅. This one has some sentimental value for me. When I turned old enough to start hunting my father gifted me my first rifle, a standard Ruger American in .308. I took several critters with it but in recent years it has mostly remained in the safe. For this year I want to give it a makeover and take it back into the field. I intend to have it rebarreled by Carbon Six in 6mm creedmoor, upgrade the trigger and replace the tupperware stock with the Magpul hunter lite. For those with experience hunting with 6mm creedmoor, is a 20 inch barrel adequate? Could I even go down to 18? I will be handloading and shooting suppressed.

Also, in regards to stocks, if anyone knows of any fiberglass or carbon fiber options I'd love to hear them. I know McMillan used to have some options but they no longer produce them.
