Quilt System

Do you run the full system ( insulated sheet, quilt, and pillow)? I am not sure about the pillow or if I would want an insulated sheet bc of the additional weight. What is your total setup running? I assume you are in the 10degree.
I run the 10* Lite. No insulated sheet and own Sea-to-Summit pillow

Thanks! Do you mind sharing what you like about the EE over the other options? I have looked into the hood and boots. AS far as stacking goes, did you try the cold weather double straps?
I didn’t like the El Coyote because of the weak drawstrings…moving around at night, I’d work the footbox open a little, which obviously sucks in the cold. The Katabatic was great, just could have used two more inches in width. The sewn footbox of the Enigma is my strong preference for cold weather use, and it’s available in wide and extra wide versions.

I haven’t tried the cold weather double straps, and probably won’t get the chance now. I’m good to about 15 with my current quilt and can get a little lower with the right clothes, but if I ever have a need to camp in single digits, I’ll look into an entirely different setup.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I also prefer a sewn footbox as well.

i have been eyeing Zenbivy for a while and last week they had a 25% off sale so I jumped on it. Ordered the Flex Air mattress, Down sheet, 10 degree down core quilt, a pillow, pillow case, and stuff sack. It all came today and I love it. Can’t wait to get out and put it to use. It’s very comfortable. I can’t stand being restricted in a mummy bag. I’m a side sleeper, and like sticking my leg out to regulate temperature.

Well the beauty of a quilt is you can just fold it back off of you. But it’s warm haha
I assumed it would be. Trying to decide between warmer in the summer compared to layering in the winter.
Warmer in the summer is winning so far.

I would rather do the opposite. If you’re hot in the summer, use a lower R pad and unfold it off of you, or stick your feet out the sides.

There’s something to be said of being truly warm when it’s really cold out. Even when it’s very cold, I’m comfortable in just base layers in the Zenbivy with a good pad.

I'm looking at the ZB for my new cold system. currently use a 30 degree bag and a down quilt when it gets below 30.
I tent stake two corners of the quilt along the tent side to keep it from running off at night.

What is the total weight of your system less the pad weight?

I have an EE Conundrum 0° long/wide and a Klymaloft insulated XL pad. The pad isn't the most ideal size and weight for camping off your back, but the comfort makes up for it in my opinion.

What is the total weight of your system less the pad weight?
XL 10 degree quilt = 2 lb 15 oz
Down full length sheet = 11 oz
Regular pillow= 1.4 oz
pillow case= 1oz

Total: 3lbs 12oz

The light is a few oz lighter than the core and ultralight is a few oz lighter than the light. But the comfort of the full length sheet and softness of the core bed along with the money savings is what sold me on the Core bed.

I’m thinking 10*>30* for all around.
I think we’re saying the same thing.

I appreciate all of the input. Lots of great options to consider. Still tossing the idea of layering around, so I think I am going to start with the Apex 40 or 50 quilt to have for summer camping and wait on some sale options. Having the SG Chilkoot 15 available for less than $400 is putting a bit of a kink in the decision process.

I started out with a few different EE quilts and ended with a EE convert. I have two, both are 30°, but one is synthetic and the other is down. If I layer them, the down goes inside the synthetic. This works pretty well for my hammock setup.

I still have these but will generally use my SD backcountry bed instead.

I didn't know about this option until now. Looks like that thing has every inch covered. Not a bad option for only coming in at 2.6lbs per the website. I'm not sure I could have that much coverage on my face.
