Bottom line you will always give up something when u go to a quilt. Meaning they r great until it’s cold. Once it’s in the 20s and below u will always let cold air in when u move. I have used extra wide Katabatic and still get a draft when I move with their attachment system. Note: I am not saying i get drafts, I am saying I get a draft when I move or toss. For me a 64” circumference sleeping bag far out weights a quilt. Also u state you r in the 34oz range. Dude just get a western mountaineering, feathered friends, Argali, or stone glacier sleeping bag. Same weight and in a Argali you save weight and you don’t have to worry about a pad attachment systems when ur cold and tired in the middle of the night. I love quilts, but only above 25 degrees.

Zen Bivy, I couldnt get comfy in a regular sleeping bag, when car camping i would unzip the bag and use it has a blanket/Quilt anyways. I belive i have the core and light sheet, It works for my uses for now, I will upgrade the quilt at some point.

I’d like some advice for my first sleep system, mainly the quilt. I’m going on a backpacking elk hunt this September in NM and plan on doing some backpacking archery deer hunting in Arizona in Dec/Jan. What would be a good quilt/system that could cover these two situations? In terms of pad i’ll probably get one with an R value around 5 for both. Been looking mainly at the Katabatic Flex or Palisade in the 22*F. I like the idea of the flex that fully opens up. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have exclusively run enlightened equipment quilts since 2018. I will never go back to a bag. My favorite quilt is the 10deg I couldn't tell you how many nights I have in that quilt and it is good as new

I currently own two quilts. I’ve only slept with one. That is the Thermarest vesper 20 degree. I’ve used it the past two years in Alaska mainly during Fall moose camps, though I used it in late spring bear hunt last year as well. So temps weren’t insanely cold, but the temps were dropping to low 20s at night. I hunt out of a boat so used a lightweight cot and a Klymit insulated pad. I have upgraded my pads to exped 8r pads but haven’t paired them yet.

I do hunt out of a Seekoutside tipi and occasionally will use my stove. I was very comfortable with the quilt and no stove. I do secure my quilt to the sleeping pad, which is important.

I recently bought a zen Bivy 10 degree quilt with the sheet system. It seems heavier than my Thermarest but I’ll give it a try once the river breaks up for some bear hunting.

Has anyone used a traditional quilt and a zenbivy and preferred the traditional quilt?

The weight of the zenbivy is similar to most comparable down bags and seems like a pain to set up.

EE quilt is around a half pound lighter for a wide and made in US.
