Question about LDS/SFW/auction tags connection

With there being a lot of attention recently on Utah's SFW Auction tag situation and the threat of Idaho going in that direction, I have to ask.

Being that these are by far the two most densely populated Mormon (is that politically correct?) states, is there a systemic connection between the Church of LDS, SFW, and the politicians involved? Or is it just coincidence?

Not trying to cast any shade, just curious if there is a connection there and want to be as informed as possible about the dynamics of the situation.

Utah definitely seems to be the Western equivalent of Illinois as far a political corruption, but I don't think the SFW/Auction/Expo fiasco is an LDS related connection.
I do wonder if the recent public land grab effort that seems to have originated in Southern Utah may be more linked to the Church, as they are one of the larger private landowners in the country.

I am not Mormon so take this for what its worth. I honestly don't believe there is any actual connection between the church, SFW and our politicians. However almost every politician at the state and federal level is Mormon. Mormons as a whole are Known to be hard line conservatives and more times then not it is impossible to get them to see any other side to the issue. They are simply content to tow the party line irregardless of what the repercussions may be. Now with that said its not a blanket statement, its just that IMHO the vast majority have shown to behave that way and I think that is where Bishop/chaffetz get their power, along with allowing a worthless turd like Orin Hatch to stay in office for so long. I do have many Mormon friends who quite frankly are adamant that bishops land initiative is a horrible idea.

I cannot say for certain if Don Peay is Mormon but it wouldn't surprise me if he was. One thing the church provides at its upper echelons an extensive network to be able to reach those in power. I wouldn't go as far to say if you are not Mormon you are ostracized but being Mormon definitely helps make all the right connections. Again I think this is where the majority of our political corruption comes from. Lots of back room deals to make sure the right people in the state are being taken care of. With SFW I think it started as a "you scratch my back and I will scratch yours", from there it has only escalated.

I guess it's all perspective but I see the LDS church go to great lengths to stay out of politics. If they used thier money and influence you wouldn't have to guess if they were involved. Also the capital salt lake city is far from conservative. I do agree we are in the top most corrupt political systems there are. Sometimes it makes me sad to live here.

Its either that or they go to great lengths to make sure nobody knows how deeply they are involved in politics. At the end of the day there simply is no way they are completely out of it, as they have to much as stake not to be. To what end they are involved is a bigger question.
