Q&A on NF NX6 scope reviews

Why would they give you scopes to evaluate without the correct guts?
Here’s some scopes but don’t test them because they will be different later 🤷🏻‍♂️

Because they don’t have production scopes yet. This was a “it will look and feel like this”.

I know there are multiple threads, however they are so large and jumbled that actual details are lost.

See this-
I would even say those are usable reticles for "our" purpose/needs...

I’m biased toward a reticle that will actually function well for hunting. And these are just terrible…idk if they’re designed to be optimal for a different market, and the brains at NF think they’re “good enough” for hunting, or if there is a willful blindness and some sort of stubborn pushback to the market demand voiced on Rokslide, but either way these are really bad imo.

Terrible is a strong word. Not great, but even the Mil C is not terrible and this FC appears to be a marked improvement from that. I still strongly prefer fhe RS1.2 reticle overall but this, especially with the illuminated ring will serve well at close range/low power compared to any other reticles NF has put out to date.

@Formidilosus
How do you see these different scopes playing out compared to what’s on the market?

They are what the NX8 should have been. What I don’t see is how the NX8 continues unless the NX6’s don’t have the durability or reliability- which I doubt will be the case.

I know you have extensive experience in multiple shooting disciplines outside of hunting. Do you see any of these unseating the current recommended first choice optics in other shooting niches?

Unseating? I don’t know. But the 5-30x is a much better gaming scope that than the 4-32x NX8. I think you’ll see a bunch of these on competition rifles.

It’s a Mil-C with a donut. On 2x it isn’t functionally any better. 20 mils between thick outer posts is too large to bracket- there isn’t a top or bottom to help box it in.

Bad enough that it takes it off the table for many users is “terrible” in my book. Especially considering the literal years of hunter feedback NF has been given at this point.

Bad enough that I about promise the S2H crew was high-fiving this morning knowing they will lose 0 sales to the NX6

1. How do you like the new turret locking mechanism? Is it nicer to have on there than the screw caps on the SHV or do you prefer the full coverage caps?

2. How does the glass compare to the SHV line? It seems like this will be replacing that line to some extent?

3. The blurry reticle at low magnification seems like a huge miss on their part. As does the reticle. Were you able to provide feedback to them directly and what was their response?

They’re good. The only thing that I don’t care for, is that you can’t set the zero stop anywhere but at 0.

The glass is good. It was as good as anything I’ve compared it to, save the Minox ZP5. There is no concern with that if these two are representative.

It’s a prototype. The image is good the entire power range once I found the second spot.

The “S2H crew” have been shooting the scopes for quite a while. I and Ryan would love NF to have made a real reticle.

Sure would have been a whole lot easier than going through the whole rigmarole of design, manufacture, and testing of the S2H/Unknown scope ground up. A couple small tweaks on this NF would have basically been what we’ve been after all this time. So close, yet so far away.

Makes me wonder why they would say “no” to help with a reticle design. If it’s a case of hard headed middle management that is too proud to accept user feedback, engineers who don’t actually use their products, or some corporate market demand numbers crunchers who think it doesn’t make sense for the almighty $$. You probably can’t really comment given your position, but that would be epically frustrating.

Well, I was holding out hope that NF would actually build a hunting-focused scope. They got so close, yet so far. They even put the Mil-C reticle in the 3-18 F1, so why not put it in the 2-12!?

Because you wouldn’t be able to see it.

Think you’ll see more 5-30 or 6-36 on competition rifles? I’d love an afternoon to try each!
