Need help on decision for puffy pants-- primary use will be for sitting out glassing. No plans to wear them while moving or while in a tree stand. Just pack them down for the hike in, pull them on to glass and then quickly off again to move on an animal.

I would like for them to be big enough to layer OVER my attacks or kanabs.

1. Kuiu Super Down Pants
2. Kuiu Kenai Pants (synthetic)
3. Patagoina Nano Puff Pants
4. Kryptek Kratos

Would like thoughts on warmth, durability (I have a SD jacket and worry about the seat on the pants), packability.

Thanks!

Hoping to buy a pair while they are on sale!

I'm gonna scratch the Kenais off the list because of the short inseam.

Who has used the SD pants and how have they held up vs the patagonia or Krypteks?

I don't own any puffy pants but use my down quilt a lot for this purpose. Might be worth considering.

I own the Superdown pants. I don't think durability is an issue. I just throw them on over the top if I'm going to be sitting in the cold for long periods. Get you one of the new Kuiu glassing pads and you'll be good to go.

I have two pair of puffy pants, Kuiu SD and Mountain Hardware Compressors. While I like the idea of having both synthetic and down, the last couple years I've only taken the SD's on my hunts. They pack down smaller then the Compressors and weigh about half as much (10.5 oz. compared to 20 oz.). I am a bit of an ounce counter so the difference in weight plays a pretty big factor in what goes up the mountain with me. So far I haven't had any issues with durability but I also tend to baby them. I've used them a little bit for glassing but mostly for hanging out in camp and sleeping in.

I got the Kratos a couple months ago. I have used the jacket over the past couple seasons so I added the pants for this fall. I plan on using it like you described. I like the jacket pretty well and hope the pants work as well for me.

Weaver- who makes your quilt and what do they cost? I could never just sleep in one but maybe it could fit the bill for glassing.

I don't have any experience with the puffy pants but have been using a woobie as I found it more versatile.

I run a enlightened equipment revelation. Around $250. I use it to sleep as well so it has multiple uses for me.

DECISION MADE!!!

I found a pair of Patagonia 'MICRO PUFF' in their outlet in Maine..... $56, done and done. They pack down tight, full of primaloft and have full zips, material feels durable enough for glassing purposes. They will fit under or over my attacks just fine.

I did compare the new 'NANO PUFF' which have a quilted construction, slightly less insulation and pack tighter... but they are not full zip... they have no zip at all actually and are made to wear under waders. So they fit tighter but they are streamlined so nothing rubs, etc.

Anyways- just wanted to follow up on this thread. I feel I got the best value for my money and will meet the exact purposes required.
