Anyone have experience with these tripods mounting a gimbal head and Btx with 115mm lens? I was looking at the tr344 and tr424 tripods with a wimberley or katana gimbal head.

While I don’t have experience with Promediagear tripods, I have two Gitzo tripods that are comparable with the same setups. I have a series 3 and series 5 systematic, each with a leveling base and Wimberley gimbal head. Both worked flawlessly with a BTX and 115mm I mounted on them. The series 5 literally seems impervious to vibrations but it is a heavy SOB.

If THIS review means anything to you, I bet you will be happy with either other than the weight if you are moving them much!

Do you use your center column or adjust the legs to the right height? I found with the legs all the way out it is too high for me with the wimberley head.

Neither of mine have center columns. A center column gives the greatest flexibility for height, but unfortunately reduces vibration dampening for what that’s worth to you.

Instead, don’t open all of the leg sections, and use the vertical adjustability of the Wimberley head to find a comfortable height.

Lastly, I found spikes will also give additional 1 to 2 inches of height if needed. It kept indoors they have spikes that have twist on rubber covers to protect your floors.
