I'm a bit out of date and out of the loop on light weight tripods and heads. Been using a this gitzo head for years. I had some plates 3-d printed that fit that head but also have a post to nest into the spartan forend mount. Been using a gitzo 1541 as my tripod.

Looking at options to lighten up. I see wiser nighthawk and tricer lp might be good options for a new head. rifle now has arca mount as well as the SRS mini arca/spartan/pic. Curious to hear peoples recommendations for a new head. I don't grid when glassing much.

As far as tripod the one I have goes to standing height but I rarely every use that height while actually in the field hunting and scouting. So looking for something lighter, smaller.

Thanks!

There is a good review on another one to consider.

Thanks for sharing that.

Aziak has another tripod that I like. Packs down smaller and has more height range. Add an tricer lp and you are just 4 oz heaver

I just got a ridgeline to try for a tag I (fingers crossed) hope to draw this fall. I think the integrated ball head on the ridgeline could almost be thought of as a more-versatile alternate way of attaching a pan head, as opposed to a stud. Same weight as a different tripod, but instead of a stud you have a very functional ball/arca rifle clamp as the “base” to attach a pan head to, and if you arent gridding you can feather the clamp to use the integrated head for glassing as well and dispense with a secondary head entirely. We shall see, but seemed more stable, faster and more convenient if you plan to shoot off it, the main difference at that point being the center column and 2-section legs vs 3-section legs.

Leofoto is a brand name OEM supplier, Leupold re brands Leofoto.... I have a couple tripods from them, really great quality. Ordering from their website directly has the best prices and free shipping. Not sure the difference between the two sites. I recently ordered a 45" tall one for my spotter, got a $50 off coupon on checkout last week. $215 dollars shipped with a fluid head, 2lbs weight which is comparable to the other hunting themed tripods.

The MTN HNTR SS tripod, and, particularly, their Nano Pro fluid head have impressed me so far. It's a sitting tripod, but they make a standing one too. Plus, Brad's a real good guy so I like supporting him.

Thanks for the mentions guys - our MTN SS would fit the bill. It's an ultralight - 20 ounce tripod and in our kit its paired with the Nano Pro - our ultralight true fluid head, it's smooth and handles pretty much any optic up to 95 and 115mm spotters. I am out of stock on Nano Pro heads for about 2 more weeks though...

Thats a really interesting set up, the two pound weight includes both the tripod and the head?

Do you know the height, both with and without the center column extended? Also would it be reasonably functional to shoot off of from seated or kneeling position (assuming without the center column up).

For glassing - Feisol 3441s and Tricer BP. Light, smooth, compact, and can double for light rifle use w/o the column.
Btw, the Tricer AD mounting plate makes for quick head removal.

Sorry for the late reply - the 2 lb weight on the MTN SS is for both the tripod and head. 47 inch max height with column extended and 34 inches without the center column extended. Yes you can shoot in seated position, may need to extend the column a little bit for kneeling, just depends on position.

I just received my Sirui ST 124 with a Sirui VA 5X head. Liking it so far. Upgrade from my Vortex Pro GT.

I bought this exact set-up for glassing and couldn’t be happier. “Used, like new” on Amazon for like $140 turned out to be totally new-in-box. Bought it after watching this video:
