I do not own a 223. I just picked up a nice savage .22 mag with a heavy barrel to shoot ground hogs on the farm by my new place. There is a good amount of coyote as well. Can I use the 22 mag? Head shot? Vital shots?
I have it set up with a bipod, big 50mm scope and a red light.
Never hunted coyote , so any advise would help.

>22 mag and coyotes.... Head and neck shots yield DRT. In the vitals at 150 yds or less will be a dead coyote but they will likely run 100-200 yds before expiring. Ask me how I know. I have a Henry lever action .22 mag.

I have two "go to" rifles. One is a 6x6.8spc. Nice fun little round to load for and really hammers the coyotes with pretty much every bullet combo I have tried.
My newest and most loved is my Blaser R8 in .243 with a Swarovski z8i.2387.jpg
