What’s your formula? I’m shooting 168 Berger with 2823 avg. 22” barrel. 60gr 4831sc.

I’m running 64.4 gr of H1000, I had been using federal match magnum primers, but I mixed up and been using Fed match large rifle the last couple outings, everything stayed exactily the same though, no change from large rifle to magnum primers that I noticed in velocity or the 1000 yard board :)

I’ll attach the notes I have from the ladder I did. The high 65’s has a bit of a node as well, but didn’t chase it.

Here's my 7 SAUM.
Built by Defensive Edge.
Rem 700 action
Triggertech
Hart Barrel
180 Bergers at 2900.
Rifle is a dream to shoot but it needs to go on a weight loss program so it will likely be getting a carbon stock of some form in the future.
Rifle is actually gray/tan but my phone makes it look blue.

Shot this buck at 515 last year.

Is this on a short action? What bullet?

Yes, built on a short action. I tested the 145 Barnes LRX, 145 hammer HHT, 160 accubond, and the 175 Berger EH.

All shot very well, but went with extra speed from the Barnes. Took this bull at 415 yards and this buck at 350 yards a couple of weeks ago. My brother in law used my rifle to take a buck (bottom pic) at 580 yards. Definitely happy with the combo.

That’s sweet. I was shooting the 140 TTSX but couldn’t get them locally so I switched to the 120 TTSX in my 7mm08. Thinking to build a 7 Saum in a short action but seeing all the comments about long actions…

What’s your coal with the 150 TTSX?

There are a lot of comments about the SAUM "needing" a longer action or a custom chamber, and a lot of that has come from the history of the 7 SAUM being used by competitors that love to tinker, but especially for hunting purposes you are not handicapping yourself by using a short action and a SAAMI chamber.

My first 7 SAUM was built on an XM action, which was limiting in stock/chassis choice, had a terrible magazine selection, was a bit finicky with feeding, and didn't give me any real benefits.

I built my next (and current) 7 SAUM on a short action with a SAAMI chamber and am 100% happy with it. FWIW, I use the 175 ELD-X primarily, but have also used 140-155g monos and have also used 155 Terminal Ascents, 160 Accubonds, 160 Paritions, and other bullets in the short action.

I have to agree with Mark here. Built my 7SAUM on a long action in a XLR and it’s completely unnecessary, not to mention the 6oz 3 round AICS magazine sucks ass feeds meh it’s heavy and loud. I wish someone would come out with a better long action magazine for an XLR.

Just took my 2nd critter with my 7mm SAUM build. My first Coues, 425yds. The first was a 7 x 6 bull taken at 325yds.

22" Proof Sendero
Bighorn Origin SA (hinge floorplate w/ Wyatt standard box)
Vortex Razor LHT 3-15x42
Alterra Arms Stock
Timney HIT Trigger
Area 419 Brake

As you see it (minus the bipod), loaded with scope cover = 9.0 lbs.

Mine has taken on a slightly new form since 2021.

21" Proof
MDT HNT26
NX8 2-20
MDT Single Pull

Without the bipod is still basically 9lbs on the money.

I feel like if you're building a 7saum it is to tinker. Otherwise just get a 7rm or prc.

Sorry, somehow missed this post. I only loaded the 145 LRX, not the 150 TTSX.

With the 145, my COAL is: 2.867". Fits in my AICS mag just fine.
