I found another deer carcass in the back yard this weekend. All tore up, can't even find the head or three legs. I found where the initial tussle or takedown happened, as the dirt, stacked brick wall, and bodily fluids were all strewn about. So.........wondering what animals dropped these two different poops that were both right next to the spots.

My guess would be fox and bear. But, both have curve ball attributes. Love to hear what other think

relative poop size in each photo?
The top one is about 6" long, the bottom one is about 5-6" long and 2" wide. The top one I was thinking fox or coyote, but the bottom one I have never seen in my yard in the 15 years we've been here. We have deer year round and almost every single day, and this is the third deer I've found that has been taken down by something since 2013. Here's a pic of a buck in 2013 that was taken down, and the dirt area around it that wasn't like that before this. Not sure if the poop is even related to the takedown, or just from scavengers afterwards. We also had some bobcat tracks or young mountain lion tracks in the yard a few months ago.

K-9 of some kind and a world record raccoon. All kidding aside, I would also vote yote and bear.

helpful poop id hint: always put your boot in the photo for size comparison but not in the poop

Plus write down the results of the taste and smell test, but like a sommelier: "I smelled notes of grease, rotting flesh and a flair of marrow in the turd. The pallet was unrefined, a bit crunchy with road oil, rotten pumpkin and a heavy goose thigh aftertaste. Quite awful in fact."

I agree: coyote and bear.

That wouldn't help..........my sense of smell and taste hasn't come back yet after Covid. ;)

I might have to call the DOW and see if they've had any bear sightings recently. Seems odd in the city this time of year.

I think it's actually coyote and raccoon.

Those trash pandas can get pretty big in proper conditions. Never seen them on a carcass tho. I can't recall seeing bear in a single log configuration, and normally they will stay with a carcass til it's gone.

I did think this was going to be a thread inspired by @robtattoo

My answer was going to be chinese food.

Not as sure on the first one, but yeah, coyote or wolf depending on where you are... also could be someone's dog.

Second one is bear methinks... may even be "the plug" that they release out of their arse after hibernation. Any chance they're coming out early this year? In Colorado we are definitely seeing bears coming out way earlier than they used to. In some cases not hibernating at all.

Fun!

I had a few piles likes the bottom around my house, about same size. Turned out to be raccoon, much larger than I expected.
