Podcast With Beretta on Tikka/Sako

@MuleyFever they don't, I was talking with a representative from tikka with Jake from unknown at the salt lake show. He was telling me they use close to minimum spec reamers. If that was the reason you could neck size only and get more speed. Velocity usually has more correlation to bore diameter from what I understand.
i have the same understanding on bore dia. i think it was Ace barrels may have stated a tighter bore will make a speedy barrel.

If I was being honest, the right side of my brain was looking for specific, “it works better because we do X and Y differently than everyone else”
I think it largely works better simply because the recessed barrel of the R700 (three rings of steel) has proven over the years to be superfluous. It isn't a 'bad' design. It was an awesome idea in the era in which it was designed, post WWII with cheap mausers to sporterize and cheap surplus powder for garage scientists to use to push the limits of velocity and pressure and blow up a rifle every now and then.

There are still things I prefer about the 700 pattern - the 'flimsy' extractor is very reliable if you don't do dumb stuff with it, and very safe if you do the specific dumb thing of overloading your ammo. I also like the integral feed rails that allow a for a double stack magazine and 'BDL' floorplate, which I prefer to a detachable magazine. I like that it's actually available in a 'short' length. Of course there are weaknesses and it’s a crying shame Remington didn’t get in front of those earlier with a WinM70 style trigger and a better bolt handle. Personally I can live with their bolt release (and I’ve seen them hang) but it would also have been an easy change. Making their rifles to a consistent spec for prefits would have been nice, too, but wasn’t exactly a concern until recent years.

But I'll freely concede that the Tikka design works really well. And I particularly love the scope rail. Simple and reliable. What’s funny is that I have a rifle with a similar rail from the 70’s that has a set of Redfield type bases clamped to it. That’s just how everyone thought back then. The local shops stocked one brand of mount for every rifle.

Overall I enjoyed the whole interview and thought it was great. It’s probably overly critical of me to focus on the 6CM aspect. At this point they know what we want. I think it was awesome of Jared to do the interview. It can be dangerous for a company rep to go on record like that.

My only real tikka complaint: guys, please bring back two action lengths. I realize it’ll never happen but I’m still sore over the move to one length.

I probably won't have time to listen for a while, what did Tikka say about 6 CM? Is it still coming later this year?

Maybe I missed it but I wish you would have asked them if they could start selling barreled actions to the US.

I asked the Finish rep about that at the Hunt expo and he said that question is brought up a few times every year and it’s something they have talked about but they would have to take production away from full rifles and they are already at capacity for rifles. I think he was saying they would have to build in more production capacity to do so.
