25 years really!! i have been applying in new brunswick canada for on and off 10 years there's no point system. Just applying in hopes of getting a tag before my scheduled outfitter tag hunt. Have you applied anywhere else ?

Yep, really. Getting too old for other places now. Probably die before I draw one here. Too pricey for my likes in Canada or Alaska. I'll just pay to shoot a buffalo or buy a steer.

Im debating hard on rather to drop my co pp on a cow or stay in the game. im 55 an honestly tired of the cost of putting in every year and watching tag prices go up. im leaning towards shooting a cow an calling it good. but as soon as i get myself there i go back to yea but this might be the year lol

sounds like out west is harder then it is to draw one in New brunswick or maine. Do any of you apply in New Brunswick ? i know maine pretty good i bear hunter there and applied forever but i've turned my focus to New Brunswick now it's quite the place. i've seen a ton of moose on every bear hunt it's insane

I have yet to draw a moose tag & I'm getting quite a few points in some states. I end up helping on other's moose hunts often. I apply for moose in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado & Maine. Most years I'm tempted to apply for moose in Idaho, but I always end up doing deer, elk & 'lope instead.

Maine resident so I apply there every year. For non residents they alot 10 percent of the tags, unlimited spots, so basically whoever buys the most has the highest chance. Residents have a bonus system but it can still be really tough

(I went to BC on a cheap meat/small bull hunt, then did a low price self-guided drop hunt trip in Alaska years ago)
I drew a late season Montana Shiras tag years ago before the point system.
Next I drew an Idaho Shiras tag on my first try. No point system in Idaho so everyone gets one shot in the draw.
Lastly I went on a hunt last September on the outfitter draw tag in New Brunswick. Outfitters get a tag every year, then they sell the hunt with guaranteed tag.

apply in New brunswick i go bear hunting up there it's insane with moose. Two ways to get a tag the outfitter tells me they apply as an outfitter but you can apply as well.

I put in for a lot of the draws you can and have for a while (for all animals). I try for the best hunts and then lower my expectations for one every now and then when I want to hunt. I get nerdy on the odds and will foia information (too many stats classes). Moose are my highest odds species each year at this point. Which is kind of fascinating. I think I'm around 8% or so each year on a bull tag, but one state is resident.

With New Brunswick, if you're born after 1981, you have to have a firearms safety as well as hunters safety. I talked to someone years ago who told me my hunters safety would count as I did shoot, but I finally went up (I live by the border), and took the CFSC/CRFSC (PAL/RPAL class), as I am sure that will count. Hilarious enough, you don't get a number with your class results that goes into their system for your profile. I could call them, but I'm just going to get a PAL for when I bird hunt up there. I figured I'd be super mad if I did draw and they wanted me to have it as the classes are fairly hard to get into if you're an American. They're not hard to get into, but 99% of the guys who teach them won't take cash or card, and only take the interac epayment system that requires a bank account in the Canadian banking system. And it's really hard to make a bank account if you don't have a CA address or work there. There's an app that's supposed to work with interac but didn't for me. Trust me, I tried. So I broke down and drove 500 miles each way and my wife got a vacation in Toronto while I had a 12 hour class day and a 7 hour class day.

I'm 80 and have been unsuccessfully applying for another resident Montana moose tag since 1989 (37 years). I can't complain too much as I did draw 2 Montana bull moose tags in the '80s, and this year I finally drew another Montana mountain goat tag in the unit 10 miles from my home after unsuccessfully applying for 47 years.
