I'm originally a film guy so I always shoot in manual everything but when the kid asked if he could take some photos with my camera I put it in aperture priority and also switched it to autofocus...he promptly decided he liked manual focus better though so I showed him how to magnify the image on the screen to get a finer focus, ideally on the eyes, and he got to snapping a few photos of me sitting on one of my favorite stumps. He clearly listens well!
Same stump, same settings. I told him if he angled around me a bit to get the setting sun in the background he would get some nice back lighting. Also reminded him of the grid lines and the rule of thirds, I thought this one of me double checking my yardage marker trees turned out excellent and our little photo lesson helped liven up an otherwise uneventful evening. Cool to see him catching on!
Capturing that moment when you watch the aircraft leave, and now you're on your own in the middle of a truly remote world...this one was after dropping me for a seven-day remote grizzly hunt in western Alaska.
