Petition to ban hound hunting - AZ Game and Fish Commission

I fully expect the CATS Prop 127 folks to submit a similar petition in Colorado. What in the makeup of the commission in Arizona? Any chance it passes?

Personally I don't think the commission would vote to do that. It's way overblown, exaggerated if not just plain false. Out of the many decades I've been in the field I've encountered lion hunters running dogs maybe 3 times?

This isn't the first time those orgs have tried regulating or banning our lion hunting. The reason we have population data was AZ was forced to come up with numbers to justify the continued hunting of lions. Since they couldn't outright stop the hunt I guess they'll try to cry that the dogs are mean and dangerous or something.

Tell them to look at what happened in California. They stopped hounds for bears and haven't come close to meeting the yearly quota since. Now the bear population has blown up and are breaking into houses.

I see they are using the emotional appeal of labeling it “ trophy” hunting just like they tried to do in Colorado this year. This is a strategy to eventually end all hunting. The game plan is to move on to “trophy” hunting of antlered game by making it illegal to keep hide and antlers from game you have harvested. They use science to their own slant and not from a perspective of hunting plays a game management role in the modern human impacted world.

For the AZ folks…. More to come from HOWL.

They just throw S__t at the wall and see what sticks. That's what happened to our trapping years ago. Looks like Wyoming has some stuff coming up also. Talk about invasive species.

Meh, a feel good exercise to keep the donations coming in. Zero chance it gets any real consideration.
Salient point with regard to the established anti-hunting groups with a foothold in states like WA, CO, NM, and AZ. I didn’t realize Center for Biological Diversity had such a presence in AZ. They have to keep filing petitions, ballot initiatives, and legislative proposals in order keep the money flowing from their wealthy donors on East/West coast. Flip side of that is they just sank millions into Prop 127 in CO and lost by a wide margin. Hunters have to keep a close eye on it all and have standing state-level organizations to fight it.
