Yvon Chuinard, the founder of Patagonia, hunts. He is also very left environmentally/politically. All that to say I don't think it's as black and white as it may initially appear.

He also offered to cover anyone that drew a WY grizz tags cost if they didn’t hunt it. He is a DB but just my opinion. I’ll support our sponsors and hunting gear companies even if they are not the best option. Best way for them to grow and become better is from our support.

Thanks for that insight, I'm active with our local BHA organization and had wondered why our chapter seemed to kind of tiptoe around this one when it was brought up, would have been better to just mention that at the meeting though in my opinion than have members wondering why it's being shrugged off.

I’m a life member of BHA and have stopped supporting them, personally they are not all theyportray themselves to be, in my view. I’ll support with my dollars and time RMEF, MDF, WSF and SCI.

I have sitka, first lite and kuiu I also have a patigona down jacket that I layer with ,during a elk hunt I tore a hole in the sleeve of the patigona jacket I called to check on a repair cost they asked for my email immediately sent me a paid shipping label and said they would fix it for free.Sent it in had it back in 3 weeks with a thank you note for letting them fix it it was totally my fault and they put a new sleeve on it and I didn’t pay anything.I have not had any warranty work done with my sitka first lite or kuiu but wander if it would have been the same result I have no idea,I will continue to support sitka first lite and kuiu but if patigona has something that I will use I have no problem using my hard earned money to buy it knowing that if something happens to it they will take care of it.

Wow, didn't see that one, thanks for the extra info! This is in the lower 48? My pattern recognition senses are tingling here...
Have a look at how closely Patagonia and first lite are now linked... Do some searching on that if your pattern recognition is tingling now...

This is just one example of the propaganda on the WDL's website. They claim that "While it is illegal to kill a mother cougar in the presence of her kittens, killing a mother while she has left her kittens in the safety of a nursery or rendezvous site is legal. Orphaned kittens are often left to starve or are attacked by other predators and rarely survive."

First and foremost there is a meat salvage requirement on cougars throughout BC, I can vouch for the fact that the meat is a trophy in and of itself so that statement isn't necessarily a lie. I'm assuming however that they're saying that because the general public associates a "trophy" with simply the skull or hide, and assume that when something was shot for a trophy the meat was left behind. The statement below could mean that in the relatively rare cases where kittens are orphaned, oftentimes they are left for dead. The way it's written however (in my opinion intentionally, just like the statement above) leads the naive general public to believe that oftentimes when a cougar is shot, it has kittens hidden somewhere that are then left for dead. As far as I know all cougars harvested in BC by licensed hunters are subject to a compulsory inspection. If a cougar was female and actively nursing kittens this would be evident and most likely noted in the inspection, quite likely opening an investigation. Records on how often this happens shouldn't be impossible to track down, WDL has been contacted for comment but haven't been holding my breathe waiting for a response.

If this was just the personal opinion of Mr. Chouinard I would fully agree this post is entirely petty and unnecessary...however when large companies are using their revenue to fund propaganda like this and their name to back it, their grantees are using that revenue to lobby to government officials and then succeeding in having hunting rights stripped away and racialized I don't think it's inappropriate to try and let people know about the situation.

Thanks to those that chimed in with further insight.

I've heard it all before.. Save it for the "badasses" and sycophants.. Tell 'em all about it at the next self promotional beer bash.. The volunteers and boots on the ground do some good work.. The org, not very much at all... The Big green foundations do not fund off mission.. Don't try to tell me that "we take bad money and do good"... That dog don't hunt...

Rocky Mountain elk foundation is a great Organization's I'm a life member there as well. They are no more or less real then BHA however they do have a diffent scope and mission statement. In fact I expect different things from all the orgs I belong to. Not sure why that such a difficult concept for you, however there is no need to struggle with it. Join what and where you want, and who represents thoughts and ideas. Have fun!

What I take away from this is the bha is fine with me hunting and fishing but they are going to support those who want to take any and all modern sporting rifles and any other so called “scary looking military grade wepons”. Basically all you need is a shotgun and a single shot rifle mentality. I can’t get behind that and it’s too bad because when I first saw them it was all pictures of hunters and anglers cleaning up the woods and water we use and making sure we can use it. I wish all these groups were more transparent. I should have known there was a hidden agenda.

anyway I digress Thank you for the info.

They do a lot of good no doubt. Does that outweigh the bad? I don’t know. I wish these organizations were more transparent.
You can be as clear as glass however it wont matter to the willfully ignorant and conspiracy theorists.

Typical response from BHA types.. Deflect, and make it personal..Tawney has his monkies trained well... He does a fantastic soft shoe routine when asked hard questions..

If you took personal it probably struck home. Maybe some self introspection is order.
