Thats much better! it was only doing 2730 in 2 different 24 inch Bergaras. Was only 40fps faster than the 6.5 creedmoor factory ammo. Shot great though.
Agreed. Different cartridge, but the factory Norma Bondstrike load only averaged 2684 in my .280 with a 22” barrel. It does shoot well though. I had a 1.2” 20 shot group.

Weird difference for sure! I’ve definitely been happy with the Norma ammo. The golden target shoots great as well, but it’s on the slower side at 2713 avg.

I could use some advice on load development. I have a 17” 1:8 243 I’ve been working on this summer. Shooting H1000 and 108eldm I have found an extremely accurate load at 47gr that yesterday stacked 6 in one jagged hole and the other 4 well within 1/2 MOA. However, it’s pretty slow at an average of 2682fps. On the other hand, I have a load with H4350 that’s averaging 2820fps but is more of a 1.5moa load. For hunting and field shooting out to 5-600 yards what is most important, slow speed with good precision or faster with average precision. I’m sure this is an easy calculation in that fancy WEZ program I hear Form talk about.

According to the Hodgdon reloading data, max H1000 load in a .243 with the 108 is a compressed load at 49.2 grains. In a 24" barrel they have it at 3051 MV. Subract 175 fps for your 17" barrel, and you'd be sitting at around 2876.

Assuming 2800 to be safe, this load would carry 1800 fps minimum for expansion of the ELDM to about 775 yards.

Looking at the full table, that's going to be about the maximum you should expect with published data. Your 42 grain H4350 load is over published max, and your MV lines up pretty close.

IMO, I would go with the more precise H1000 load every time. You still have a little room to add some velocity assuming you're not already at pressure with 47 grains. Regardless, this more accurate load carries 1800 fps to around 675 yards, so you're not giving up much range.

Might see what you can find for data on N565, I've been finding in most cases where H1000 applies N565 usually gives a little extra velocity and shoots just as tight.
Is N565 significantly hotter or less stable than H1000? Do you know much about N560 as well? It gets roughly the same velocity as H1000 in my .25-284 according to Hodgdon with 2-3 grains less powder. Your thoughts?

Unfortunately I have no experience with 560, and little with 565. But I've read and been told that 565 is pretty stable. I worked up my load for my 6.5 PRC at 85° last weekend, so I'll be testing some chilled ammo soon and report back.

Was 47gr your max load before hitting pressure with the H1000?

If not, as the gypsy noted, add more powder and carry on.

Thanks all, I hit slight signs of pressure at 48 with Hornady brass. I bought some Starline and will try it again.

Another new rifle/barrel/cartridge and load work up” done in the first ten rounds loaded.

Tikka 223 takeoff cut to 20” and rechambered to 22CM.

As already posted- first 9 rounds out of the gun, 77gr TMK. Light load and trued at 740 yards at 3,040fps MV.

Guessed at load for the next with 80gr ELD-X’s-

IMG_0876.jpeg

Right at 3,200 fps.

Couldn’t leave well enough alone so went up .5gr-

Then tried @Dioni A load of 62gr ELD-VT. It doesn’t particularly like it, but it did true out at 3,580fps MV-

The main hunting load will be the 80gr ELD-X and is done. I will try to get the 62gr ELD-VT to work as well.
