Painless load development (mine)

@Formidilosus RE: 22 CM

How did you decide what powder you would try with each of these bullets? For example, why not try the H4831 w/ the 80 ELD-X after it had done so well w/ the 77 gr TMK? Seems like power combinations with a specific bullet are quite numerous (in many cases), how do you decide which one to try? Whatever you happen to have on the shelf that works for that cartridge?

H4831 shot well, but was slower MV than I was looking for. H4350 I knew would give higher MV, I have had some use with it, and so I copied @Dioni A load. Today I checked again, and the final load is:

80gr ELD-X
41.5gr H4350 (it’s hot)
LRP
2.585” coal
It trued at 960 yards at 3,300fps MV.

Thats where I wanted to be.

There’s lots of ways to try. I usually start with the combo that is temperature stable and gives the highest MV, and is known to be a commonly used powder.

Thank you. It’s 44 grains of Staball 6.5 @ 2.770 OAL. I can’t remember CBTO

Man that’s killer! Makes me want to try that too. That’s the problem with this place, it’ll never allow you to be content.

Thanks for the reply

Was disappointed in the TMKs I ordered on sale. Turns out a powder change made all the difference. Would prefer not to use Varget for the .223 as I have other intentions for it, but oh well.
