Ah, spring: highs in the 50s, river discharge bumping, turkeys already getting frisky, and, of course, the good ol arduous work capacity test.

Anyone else racking up the 45 lb miles training for pack test?

I just hate how you have to “walk”. Makes it a little tougher haha

Terrain? Trail, off trail?

It's on flat ground, usually on pavement (which sucks) or an unpaved road.

That’s cool - I’m from the old step test days and don’t recall hearing about this new test - I like it. 3 miles in 45 minutes is moving right along. A lot of slow walkers must struggle with it, and natural fast walkers do well. Fast walkers are better workers anyway. Lol

As a practical matter it must be a lot easier to evaluate a large group with the new test.

The pack test replaced the step test in the last millennium. Just FYI.

Yes, google says late 1990s - I was on to other things by then. *chuckle*

Not going to lie, it was great fun to speed up the step test metronome to pull the chain of new guys.

Edit: Could zero the scale to read 45 lb with 70 lb to get the same effect today.

One of the advantages of being an old guy single resource is I only need to do Moderate these days. Enjoy rubbing it into the young guys as I turn around after a mile.

Still need to practice though. I’ll throw my 40 lb vest on and start doing 4 mile one hour hikes in the near future to train up for the test.

We just administered wtc on Friday. Can't believe young guys that can't pass it and some older guys we have with health issues that put them to shame..

Did mine last week. Always tender the next day. Still havent talked them into letting me do it with my hunting pack.

It’s about that time. Getting ready for it. I always use my hunting pack. Its much more comfortable than a vest
