So I ordered an action wrench from optics planet a couple months ago. When the box arrived, it had some USPS tape around the bottom and a large hole in the side. When I opened it, nothing was in there except some instructions for the action wrench and some bubble wrap.

When I tried to call their CS line, the only options I could find lead you to only being able to check on a packages movement. The online contact is very generic and says they will reply in 24hrs. Well, I sent 1 everyday asking for a new item or refund for a week and over a month later still haven’t seen a reply.

My next step was to call my bank and reverse the payment. A couple weeks after that I get an email from opticsplanet that is the same one as when I set my order confirming the order and a second one that has the tracking showing it was delivered. Then, my bank denies the claim. So they must have been able to get a hold of someone.

I also received a request to review the product. I have it a 1 star stating I never received it. That review was denied in under 1 minute. AI I’m guessing.

What am I missing here? I don’t think I can file the claim with USPS? Any luck getting ahold of them some different way?

Optic Planet blows and that's pretty common knowledge. Some will come on and claim they're great but they've been pulling the same crap for decades.

Had many good experiences then ordered an “open box” Redding powder thrower that was missing a cylinder and some other parts… totally useless. They ended up taking it back, but it was a royal pita. and even with the guy on the phone finding the replacement parts they wouldn’t refund me the value of them
So I could fix it. I’m sure the next guy got royally shafted as well. Got the same powder thrower from creedmoor sports for like 20 bucks more but still about a hundred under retail.

Ordered 2 rough diamonds trigger techs 2 weeks ago, about $45 cheaper each than other places. Package (plastic envelope, not a box) arrived with just 1 trigger, looks like it had been cut open and re-taped somewhere along the way (tape covered the usps barcode label), I emailed and they asked for pics of the package (thankfully I saved it) and sent the pics in, started dealing with that email process back and forth but realized that would be a lot of hassle. I called their CS line, did the 'we will call you back' place in line option, got a call back 4 hours later, talked to the nice CS rep who looked at the pics and shipped me another trigger. Guessing some folks out there in the warehouse or USPS chain know they ship some expensive stuff and are regularly raiding packages.

Hold on.........If you send me something and it gets lost or stolen in transit, it's your fault? You even said there is clear evidence where the wrench could have fallen out or been stolen. But it's your fault it didn't arrive to me. Seriously?

USPS has $100 included shipping insurance for most shipping services. You should have taken pictures and filed a claim.

You didn't file a claim with USPS so the only info you have to support your case with is that the package was delivered successfully. You wouldn't give me my money back in that same situation.

I'm not to saying OpPlanet is great. Just stating that you are dogging on the wrong party.
If you ship something you file a claim not the recipient.

I know plenty of people who successfully filed claims as a recipient, and many companies tell you to validate shipments when they arrive and file claims ASAP.

Regardless, OP doesn't mention trying to file a claim at all. He only mentions trying for a replacement or refund from OpPlanet then escalates to his CC for a charge back. It's a bad situation either way and based off OP's interaction with OpPlanet, why wouldn't you try everything you can?

Ordered a Trijicon scope from opticsplanet on Presidents’ Day, scope was listed as In Stock and the price with the holiday discount seemed like a winner.
Next day or the day after I had already received a tracking # I got an email from them saying my order was cancelled. Money got refunded back on my card so I had my bank block any recharge attempts from them and ordered the same scope for less from @EuroOptic like I should’ve done originally. Don’t use Opticsplanet, use @EuroOptic

Absolutely. It’s the seller/shipper’s responsibility that the shipment makes it in one piece to the buyer/receiver.

USPS is apparently different, but UPS & FedEx don’t even pay out claims to the receivers. It goes to the shipper, cus the shipper is their customer who the purchased the shipping insurance.
OpPlanet did nothing wrong.
Ridiculous.

I said the shipper is at fault. Just weird that OP didn't try to get USPS involved when OpPlanet did nothing for two months? More action is always better than not enough. Why wouldn't you file a claim with USPS? If they aren't gonna honor the claim because you need to be the seller, that is just more ammo to bring to the bank for a charge back. OP didn't have anything to work with and got screwed.

I think I've completed and reviewed too many COE's (incident analysis) at work. 😂

Thank you, you have brought up a valid point. I was under the impression that the seller/shipper has to file the claim but will give this a try and see what USPS says. It does show it was insured for $100 which would cover it. I still have the box and took pictures of it when I got it.

When I sell stuff on here, if my sold item didn’t make it, I would give that person their money back and deal with filing the claim for the insurance with whomever I chose to ship it.

Part of my job is to figure out ways to resolve problems then retroactively architect ways to prevent them in the future. I also get the fun job of writing technical SOP documentation. 👎🏻When I get paged for something, I don't have the option to not try everything possible to resolve the situation. The "what haven't you tried" and "why haven't you tried it" is burned into my brain. 😂

Best of luck on your escalation. 👍🏻 Your problem is definitely solvable. Sucks that you have to do this.
