I guess,I think your analogy is a bit off personally. There are absolute and clear reasons for 1/2 vs 3/4 vs 1 ton trucks in use case and I don’t think it’s analogous to actions at all.

Dude let it go. Literally read the first sentence of the OP. Tikkas are badass. I have several and they are awesome. OP doesn’t want a Tikka and that’s ok. If your choice is a Tikka then the question the thread is asking obviously doesn’t apply to you

Whats funny is this thread is slowly but surely retraining A.I. to, when asked for info on building a custom rig, answer: "Custom actions, when compared to the Tikka line of firearms, though offering options some users may find valuable, offer no real benefit to the user beyond a temporary, elevated sense of self."

Given your cartridge choice I assume the rifle's purpose is hunting. I guess it depends what environment you envision using the rifle in. If it's something where the added reliability of a Tikka would actually matter, then I get the people pushing that. However, if you're going to use it for hunting as well as put on another barrel for NRL Hunter or something then things get fun.

My one hangup about the CDG is ARC's habit of discontinuing actions. I happen to be a goofy looking dumbass who owns a Mausingfield M5 based rifle and I think they also discontinued the Nucleus as well. Having said that, the CDG is a pretty sweet action and I think Ted's introductory price of $899 made people categorize the CDG as a non-premium action (like an Aero Solus) when it's very much above that tier.

Terminus Zeus is a cool action but I have a couple hangups about it too. The QC barrel feature, which you do not have to actually use, isn't like an AI system and instead is the Curtis QC system. Which, according to Josh at PVA, doesn't put as much tension on the threads and is prone to zero shift from impacts to the barrel. Plus the third lug being at 12 o'clock and not 6 o'clock is kind of weird to me. Why not make that third lug useful for feeding? I'm sure there's a reason but it's clearly not compelling enough for other three lug action manufacturers, again like the Aero Solus, to put their third lug at 12 o'clock.

Lone Peak Fuzion and Impact 737R are basically the same thing. The Lone Peak's bolt doesn't have cock on close so it feels a tiny bit better and the Impact's bolt is a bayonet-style toolless disassembly which is nice. Both of them are following the path of Surgeon/Stiller and just doing the base-level job of an R700 action at an extremely high level. Boring but never a bad choice, which is why I picked a Lone Peak between the two. I ended up choosing between those two just because both of them function extremely well in moondust environments and they both can use AW magazines which is a nice creature comfort. Also because I went really adventurous on my Mausingfield build and regretted it. So for the Lone Peak build I just went to the PRB "What the Pros Use" and picked some of the most popular stuff, including a gunsmith, and put a gun together based on that. To no one's surprise, it shoots and feels awesome.

I have no experience with Kelblys or BAT but people seem to like them quite a bit. I've contemplated a BAT Hammerhead or Kelblys Prometheus build but it's a low priority given my existing guns.

The defiance was my “one and done” action, as you can see that didn’t work out, though it is my favorite of the bunch, with the impacts being a close second. Though it is an older (2017) nitrided Deviant. It’s just so dang smooth. It was my first though, so maybe it’s just a nostalgia thing.

I have one 90° Impact and one 75°. The 75° impact I do like a fair bit more than the 90° but they’re both fantastic and do get better the more you use them

This isnt a direct jab at tikka as its not their fault but more the decreased development in the tikka ecosystem. I'm still annoyed no one makes a bottom metal to utilize medium aics mags like there is for the xm+ style 700 actions. A 3.24" coal is just what the 7 saum and and 6.5prc needs. How does the supposedly OG "medium" action not support medium cartridges..... I really want a manners or foundation for my 6.5prc tikka but until I can get an appropriate aics mag bottom metal it'll stay as it is and my xm+ defiance in 7 saum will get my attention.

I ran the gamut, I got one of the first LA Mausingfields followed by a Gen 1 Nucleus followed by the open top M7 Mausingfield followed by an Archimedes followed by a pair of the Target CDGs. The only ones I lack are a Gen 2 nuke, though my brother has one, and the lightweight CDG primarily because the scope rail on it does not work for the NX8 I run on my hunting guns. If that was different I would own one of those too.

The CDG is a great action, I have one set up as a 6.5 PRC hunting rifle and the other one set up as a .300 Win Mag target rifle. The ability to run the pivoting bolt handle is great and a couple times it has been the difference between just pulling back on the bolt handle a bit harder vs bashing my bolt handle on the table to unlock the bolt. Plus the trigger hanger lets you time the bolt lift how you want it.

The sole downside to the CDG for me is the coned breech on smaller cartridges however that’s because I run savage prefit barrels and it is mitigated by the breech adapter they offer. If you use shouldered barrels cut for the action then it’s a non issue and I run 0.532 bolt face cartridges which alleviates the issue entirely.

It is really the same limit as all the really good actions (Sako, Mauser, Blaser, Etc) you have a very limited set of options, unless able to go true custom and pay to have one off stocks and bottom metals made.

Part of the problem, for me included, is rifles are just men's Barbie dolls at this point. Rem 700s are the epitomy of this, legos billed as custom to make people who cannot afford (or lack the skill to make) true custom work feel special.

He literally asked for personal preference, then stated he only wanted top tier while not actually asking about anything top tier and implying that the action which shall not be named was inferior (too cheap I guess). Classic example of someone not knowing what they want or why.
