Off season for the dogs

I put up the retrieving obstacle this afternoon and did a few easy reps over it. I’ll start using heavier items and then work the height up to 30”.

Thawed out a 4 lb rabbit and put the top lap on the obstacle. The max height for testing is 30”, which this now is. The game she’ll need to use is a 7 lb fox. The rabbit was easy for her.

Did a few easy retrieving drills afterwards. We’ll start working on the football field next week with some long blinds.

Needing to get some backing work with the older dog. He usually finds more birds but today the younger dog found them! Got in our work right before the snow.

Same issue for me. Young dog backs great. Old dog does not. Old dog finds most the birds tho.

Dog was an asshole today at training group, wouldn’t stop on whistle , nicks or nothing . Went straight to where the flyers were caged, win some lose some. Shes been so good i almost forgot she was an animal , reminded me today 100% animal.

I am probably not even a Novice trainer.....but taking a step back and de-escalating....what was the End Goal in the "Real World" ? lol

Real world application would be you have a wounded bird your trying to get the dog to and they wont go past the dead ones which the flyer boxes simulate.

Didn't land well. Was sarcasm.

Dogs was finding live birds....the "end goal". Wasn't in the order you chose or time frame...but dog found birds.
