Anybody got good training tips for pointing dogs and pen raised quail? I've shot a dozen or so wild quail but never trained with them.

Got about 10 good fliers with plans to use tomorrow. My pup has been remarkably steady in training but it's been 90% on pigeons and chukar in launchers. My gut says put quail in the launcher as well.
Good flyers in the launcher but be ready to keep the dog under control (or get in control quick) as typically pen raised quail don't have much strength to them. I have used them in a bird bag to throw bonus/surprise birds

Quail were a bust. Glad I used launcher. They didn't fly for much at all. Got some good points at least.

Took Buck off birds about six weeks ago to focus on Whoah breaking. This is a picture of his first time training with pigeons in conjunction with Whoah. He’s doing great, I might just get to shoot a bird or two over him in September.

If I have help I tend to the dog and have them throw the bird when I tell them to. I'm pretty careful with liberated birds other than pigeons.

Anybody running dogs seeing any skin irrations this season? My older male is fine but I have noticed my pup breaks out often after working the tall native grass areas. I've seen the same on another guys pup locally.

I suspect it's a seasonal thing. Doesn't really bother my dog but the other guys female has required steroids.

Is there any useful function for skunks other than ruining everything your dog is wearing for 2 mos?

There are certain gnats in the early season up here that eat my girls' bellies alive and leave bumps like that which then turn into little puss filled pustules.

Just to keep it real. Dog training isn't all sunshine and rainbows! Really foggy this am. I thought no biggie. Couldn't see 75 yards. My you g dog ran off twice. Old dog bumped 2 birds intentionally and got sprayed by a skunk.

Was so foggy it was basically misting. I got absolutely soaked. Great day!
