Name something that hasn't gone up in price.

Biden's signature! Biden bobble heads (they don't actually bobble, he couldn't even get that right) ..... pretty much anything Biden has depreciated, and lots of stocks are currently going down in price ;)

not much to make lemonade out of though, i agree with you

curious to see what the WC version of the nula/FC will be.... i am kind of interested if they have a fast twist .223 and they are sub 2k

He said he wasn't sure yet. Might be more than what Melvin has been charging, might be the same, might be less. They are still figuring out exactly how they are going to produce it and what it will cost them.
Really glad that Wilson is taking on the project. I had wanted WC to get into the bolt rifle biz b/c as I understand, they already make barrels for some other bolt rifle companies (eg Cooper). REALLY hoping these don't turn into $5,000 rifles with Bill. Lol.

Be interesting to see if this is more of a $3000-3500 semi-custom mountain rifle or a $1800-2000 production gun (heir of Fieldcraft). Love my Fieldcraft - wanted a NULA for some time but couldn't justify the cost as my FC is perfect for what I use it for and more accurate than I can shoot. Glad this wonderful design will continue regardless!
My wallet hopes $2k. With Fieldcraft, was Melvin's secret sauce fully implemented into the stock? where the barrel lays in the stock all the way out to the fore end? (or am I mistaken on that part). Melvin said that his stocks were stiffer than the barrels

You are correct on the barrel being bedded out to the end of the stock. Ive heard this is why they shoot almost any load into the same POI.

Very cool. I just called Wilson Combat and they said at the moment, these rifles are priced at $4200 bucks, come with black finished barrels, offer 3 custom stock finishes and a custom LOP (13.25” standard….I believe). The guy said they’re still transitioning production to WC and didn’t really have any new info. But reiterated they have to get stuff in place for production to determine cost and back into a price. Barrett had it priced very well and I hope WC can keep it sub $2500 😬

It will cost you but you want the 18"....with a 7" can it is perfectly balanced. I have 3 RM700s that now sit in my safe and collect dust.
Nice! You get good ballistics with 18”?

Do you know if Rem700 short action picatinny bases fit the Fieldcraft?

Melvin didn’t have any input on the FC stock, or the rifle, for that matter. He was surprised when he found out Barrett bought the remnants of Forbes Rifles. He didn’t know who made their stocks when I asked, but basically said they didn’t impress him. They didn’t go through the intricate process that he has for laying the clothe for the stock a particular way to get the stiffness he does. He currently has a few FC’s in his shop.

Interesting; thanks for the info

The fieldcraft stocks were made by AG Composites. It's a very nice and well made stock. Much better than the Forbes or Colts in my opinion. Certainly not the same as Melvin's hand made. But the fieldcraft also cost 1/2 as much as a NULA. They are bedded into the stock and require a specific torque on the action bolts (like the NULA) to properly marry the action/barrel to the stock.

I assume the Melvin is giving Bill Wilson the full rundown on the process to make that stock. Eager to see the wilson-produced NULA bolt guns

And fwiw, Fieldcraft's aren't made from Forbes's remnants. The made made their own tweaks and made their own gun. Still hope to own a NULA, either old or new - but the FC is an excellent rifle.

That is the plan for the stock…and entire rifle for that matter. A lot of what goes into those rifles resides in Melvin’s head and his few guys in his shop so they’ll be a learning curve. I’m sure given WC’s machining prowess that they will get the metal work right after they get the process down. I think they’ll also continue to use Douglas, not positive on that though.

Interestingly enough, the Forbes stocks were actually made by Melvin and his crew. Melvin basically had his hands on the first batches of Forbes rifles that were highly regarded. After that, the wheels apparently came off regarding the machine quality and some of the Forbes guys at Titan were doing some shady stuff.

The things that Melvin designed, including the lightweight Talley rings, stock weight and geometry, and the Timney 3 function safety is incredible.

I didn’t mean made from actual parts when I said remnants. I meant in a legal sense from purchasing Forbes/Titan. Barrett made a nice rifle, especially for the money.

I would love to have a nula too…have wanted one for 25 years or so but never could pull it off $$$ wise.

I live in the same town as Melvin. I called him last month and told him that I’ve always wanted one of his rifles but never could buy one, but wanted to shake his hand for everything he’s done for the industry. So he told me to stop by and I spent an hour in his living room hearing stories and looking at rifles. Needless to say, the man is a pure mechanical genius.

I called WC a few weeks back and they will take orders for a rifle now, based solely on what NULA was/is offering at NULA’s price.

They said WC is still getting the whole production process lined out, tooled up, calculating costs etc so the the transition to WC pricing and specs / options is not yet finalized.

But that could change any day now.

I might just have to get in line. Just gotta decide the caliber and barrel length. I'm leaning towards a 308 in a 20" barrel.
