I have an original Melvin NULA model 20 in 308 that I basically take on every hunt. It's perfect in every way except I am reallllly wanting to get a suppressor these days. I've wondered if I could chop and thread the barrel from 22" to 18" and add on a can like the Zero Gravity 30 cal line, which should technically only add a few ounces net? Is this sacrilege? I've not taken it to a smith yet to see if there's even enough meat on the barrel to support threading, more wondering if I'd ruin the the whole idea of it especially since I could never get another one aside from the Wilson production.

Personally, I wouldn't have an issue on a rifle such as that. You're really only enhancing it for what it's made for. The ones that I feel are off limits are the old ones like my 1960s model 100 Winchester where it would be super cool to suppress it but I just can't bring myself to get it chopped.

Second of all, who cares? It's your rifle, do with it as you please. If you're using it as you should, you'll need a new barrel at some point anyway.

Do it! Go 16 inches though. I did this to a NULA in 6mm ARC I owned, and it improved the rifle greatly. In the 1% chance you regret it, OutKast Arms, Melvin’s old shop, could easily rebarrel it.
