Hey guys, I had a few questions for yall. How many of you guys do NRL hunter? How many think it’s beneficial for real hunting? What are must have gear? Also I’m fairly new to long range shooting shot 500 yards consistently but rarely push past that, is this a good way to learn extending distances?

Lots of us shoot in the NRL Hunter series.

Yes, it's very beneficial for real hunting related to long range.

Must have gear:
Rifle (Ideally a lighter hunting caliber like 6.5 CM)
A reliable scope that holds zero and adjusts correctly (I prefer the 4-32 NX8)
Bipod unless you prefer shooting off your pack (people who take it really seriously use MDT Triple Pull mostly)
Rangefinder (preferably rangefinding binos with balistics)
Something to write down your dope on (arm boards are best)
Tripod for glassing and shooting
A sandbag
A backpack to carry your gear

Probably more things I'm forgetting, but that's most of the must-haves, I think.

Justin put a good list together for you! Dont get over the top on the gear for your first match. The nrl hunter community is pretty awesome and a lot of shooters will let you try some of their gear at the matches. For the bag Armageddon gear gamechanger pint sized sand filled. This is about the only bag you will need for any of these matches.

NRL Hunter is a great way to learn the long range shooting but more importantly it makes you very quick with your gear! Shoot skills division and show up ready to learn and have a great time!

Thank you for your input. Super excited to get going. Just ordered a chassis through West elk precision!

I think the training and practice for preparing for shooting the matches is where you will gain an advantage when hunting. A guy could never practice and go shoot matches and finish dead last. Not going to help your game. But becoming a disciplined shooter in order to be competitive will take you where you want to go.
