Not so duty AR cans?

I’ve been looking at cans for an 11.5” carbine-length gas gun. There are Avogadro’s number of AR cans on the market and there is a ton of innovation going on at the moment. The Duty Can thread was helpful, but I don’t really need or want a 12-16 oz duty can that will handle 60 rounds at cyclic. I don’t have super high expectations on sound suppression given that port pop is pretty unavoidable. I would like to keep the weight down without going ultra lite and minimize gas blow back as much as possible. What would y’all recommend?

Here’s what I’m working with. I have an 11.5” Criterion Core barrel, with an H3 buffer and a Geissle braided super 42 spring. The gun currently has a fixed gas block, but I have a Superlative Arms adjustable gas block that I can swap over if needed.

Thanks in advance.

I just got an Ab A-10 out of jail for my AR. Not super light but its full auto rated, and for the price, cant be beat. I did go with the 7.62 because its going on a 300blk sbr at some point.

AB does make great cans. I have a Raptor 8-stack. The A-10 5.56 is my default plan, especially given the cost. Wondering if it’s worth it to consider any of the newer low-back pressure cans. Many of them are pretty pricey. Most are pretty heavy.

I bet a mole of AR cans is pretty gd heavy

I’m in a similar position as the OP. Has anyone compared the a-10 in 762 and 556 versions on a 11.5ish barrel? If so any preference/differences between the two?

I haven't used that one in particular, but I can tell you that .30cal cans on a 5.56 generally suck. If I could go back in time, I would buy a separate can dedicated for .224cal instead of falling for the .30cal general purpose meme.

Thanks, I would be leaving this can on the 11.5 so not looking for a do all. The price on the A10s are hard to beat and that’s what has me curious about them.

How do 30cal cans suck on 5.56mm AR’s?

For the reasons you are describing (port pop) it's fairly hard to go wrong. Also I would recommend you drop $19.99 on a YHM "suppressor" gas block. It's got a .062 port (from memory) and at least in my experience it's a good long term solution to set the gas without having to depend on an adjustable gas block. The restricted gas tubes also work well but they are 3x the price. I use both.

Some of the old school 30 cal cans had way lower back pressure than the old school 556 cans, to the point where I still run some on my ARs.
