Bergara B14 vs the Tikka T3X in 7 mag.

I’m a bow Hunter that has started hunting out west and I’ve drawn an elk rifle tag. The Bergara feels nice, but the Tikka is about pound less and the action slides like butter. I’m leaning towards the Bergara but a couple of my knowledgeable friends, and even a gunsmith is pushing me towards the Tikka. I’m 50 years old and those hills can be challenging. Is that pound worth it? ALSO……what are you guys thoughts on a scope for it? I expected to put a scope on for 200-300$$. They laughed at me at the gun counter. Any input is much appreciated!

Easily Tikka over Bergara. I’ve had both and done load dev on quite a few of both. My buddy’s bergara in 7prc shoots 10” 5 shot groups at 200yds and his bergara in 300prc shot so bad he sent it in and they either gave him a whole new gun or rebarreled it and it didn’t shoot any better.

For a scope $200-$300 will get you laughed at just about anywhere. NF rings are almost $200.
A few good scopes that are reasonably priced are Trijicon accupoint or credo, NF shv, maven, swfa, Sightron s tac.

A few friends have the Bergara B14 in other cartridges. They seem to shoot week but I felt the Bergara bolt was a bit too sticky for me.

Yeah you're going to be disappointed with a 200 scope but you don't have to spend a $1000 either. Split the difference and you'll be able to get something like a Trijicon Huron 3-9 or 2.5-10 or a SWFA 3-9.
