Describe extreme. The ring will give a fracture point, but a j4 jacket and a mono share only the color. Everything else is different from hardness, thickness, meplat....Everything.

I’m aware that everything is different between monolithic and jacketed bullets. I guess extreme isn’t the correct use of words. I’m just wondering if/what would happen with an additional fracture point from the nose ring would do.I don’t know if losing a portion of the note would increase the meplat size to allow for better expansion/disruption. It’s more of a curiosity thing to see would happen. I am not a huge fan of shooting monos but I’m forced to so I’m just seeing if I can find a better mouse trap.

I have been interested in monos and tested them out but didn't get good accuracy so I abandoned it. f I am going to shoot monos I think what I will try next is bullets meant to have the front fragment and the back tumble. They are already making bullets to do what you need. Look at the controlled chaos or cutting edge bullets. The ones meant for just regular expansion don't get me excited much.

This company is doing something with a groove. My guess is it doesn't something.

NEW! Fracture Control Groove This bullet now features our Fracture Control Groove which provides more consistent, controlled expansion. The all new MAXIMUS™ line is a hybrid between our popular high BC MTH™ bullets and our extreme trauma producing Raptor™ bullets. This truly unique line is the missing piece in the Cutting Edge Bullets product line offering.

Key features of the MAXIMUS:

-Extreme trauma

-High BC

Try this for a better mousetrap.
I’d love to but that’s half as many mousetraps in my budget.

I’ve looked at the cutting edge bullets and controlled chaos but was under the impression they were designed to shed petals and have the slug do straight line penetration. I’ll look again. My sample size of one for hammers was much better than the Barnes I’ve used but I’m wired to tinker and my hunting season is over so I have another 8 months at the bench.

Those look interesting and may be worth a shot.
The PVA Cayugas are supposed to tumble similar to the dtac. I picked some up and will test 2025 hunting season and post results.
Good to know. I may try some of those out in my next build
